Installing the Jackpot 2-1-2 with before and after Dyno tunes
« on: November 12, 2012, 09:32:25 AM »

I have ordered my Jackpot 2-1-2 ceramic coated headpipe and the 2” baffles for my 4” Rush Big Louie slip-ons.

I realize the Fullsac X pipe might make a pound or two more torque, but with the Jackpot being coated internally and externally, there is some additional heat reduction (very important in Texas) along with the longevity of the SS tubing.

I have arranged for Ed at the Dyno Difference in Dallas to do a baseline dyno run this weekend before any modifications.

I will do the install next week and then have Ed do his tuning magic and I will then post the before and after dyno charts.

Unless your plan is to allow Ed to tune the bike prior to changing the exhaust you are not going to compare apples to apples. You either have to run the same tune both before and after, or change the tune prior to changing the pipes to get a comparison between the two systems. Since I have no idea of what your budget is the best way would be to run what you have now as is, then change parts and run it again with the same tuning. Then you can compare the two setups fairly.

I respectfully disagree completly. My goal is to know what HP and TQ my bike came from the factory with. A baseline dyno run will estabilish this.

Once my mods are installed and the bike is tuned and dynoed again, I will know what my Mods did for me. In my mind, this is the only way to establish "stock" vs "Exhaust & tune"

Are you looking for a "before and after" tune difference?
If your bike is not "bone stock" (Big Louie slip ons?) it MAY not give you a "baseline" as factory stock.
Are you going with some aftermarket tuner?
Bottom line, what we have found here is about a 10% increase with just tuner, mufflers, SE intake over stock. AND someone who knows how to tune!
Remember, your results may vary.
I think if you look at some dyno charts posted all over the place here, you will see what I mean.
Be cautious to look at the "before and after" mods with said charts.

If what your looking for is a comparison of how the bike ran before and then after, then your test procedure is OK. If you are looking for what your parts increased the performance then you must tune first to what you have then, tune again after the new parts are install. That is the only way to really know what your getting. The tune in a stock bike is cut back by the factory to work in all possible cases, so it is NOT optimized to your bike like having it tuned after parts are installed should be. The only way to see, what got you what, is how I stated before.

Before buying my slip-ons, I talked with the tecks at Rush, V&H and Frank with Dragos's. They all told me the same thing, that with the restricted catalytic exhaust systems in the newer bikes that there was virtually no performance gain by adding slip-ons only.

So I think my baseline #’s will be close enough to give me the information of what a 2-1-2 head pipe, correctly sized baffles, an EFI tuner and a good dyno tune will add to a stock bike.

You guys are so far advanced in your modifications over what I am ever going to do to my bike. . I will never do cams, heads, pistons and all the other goodies that will make it a little bit faster.

I will have spent about $1,600.00 in performance $$$ to give me what IMO is the best bang for the buck (which is a computation of the weighted averages of $$$, sound, loudness, power, heat dissipation, appearance and quality of construction) and then I am going to ride the hell out of it for the next 5 years and then do it all over again with the New 2018 Supercharged RGU SCCVO (ok...ok, I got a little carried away there)  ;D

I just want to know how much did I gain for my $$$ spent and I am trying to share what I am doing with the “others” like me.

If you are looking for "best bang for the buck".............How about $850?
Check this out:
http://www.fullsac.com/sleeper-kit-110.html
Just one of many options, but a proven performer.
There are many here that can tell you this is MY bike, not my brothers' or buddies' or someone at the shop.....and have the dyno charts to show.
JMHO, but we can always get whatever we want as far as chrome, design, sound, etc.
Pick your poison, but, most all "kits" will bring in similar numbers assuming they are tuned properly.
BTW, the stock cat on a stock bike is not as restrictive as you may think. It's just hotter than Hades!
What the others are telling you is pretty true about mufflers. Harley requires no ecm upgrade with just a muffler change. Open up the intake, then they recommend upgrades.
Biggest change will come with a good dyno tune.

Hey Mike,

It's a 2013 RGC CVO

The Fullsac package with X pipe, baffels, tuner and canned tune with shipping comes to $1,073.00

I paid a little extra for the Rush slip-ons because i like "that" sound

Add in a Stainless Steel head pipe with ceramic external and internal coating vs a Carbon Steel pipe with external coating only, and in a hot exhaust enviroment the SS system will outlive the CS system by about 2 to 1. (Critical Alloy Piping design, fabrication and installation is what I do for a living)

add the baseline dyno run on top of the "custom dyno tune" and I think my money is well spent.

I am told by my tuner (Ed) that the Fullsac will make a bit more HP and TQ. I chose a different route. It does not make one better or worse that the other. They are different designs, both made by quality vendors that stand by their products.

Well all I know is that Ed will hook you up. You will leave his shop smiling after he tunes it.
 Take it easy.

Hey SG,

I think it was your write up that turned me on to ED.

From what I am being told, he is about the best tuner in the TX-OK-LA area. Maybe the whole world

I figure that will sidetrack this thread and really stir up some dis-cussinn  :huepfenjump3:

I guess the best bang for the buck means different things to different folks...
you stated that the Fullsac would get more torque and HP-sounds like Fullsac is better bang to me   :nixweiss:
you stated the longevity of the SS tubing-been at this a long time and that should  truly be irrelevant because both pipes will last longer than you intend to keep it unless damaged in an unfortunate situation and both remove the "excessive" heat from the cat   :nixweiss:
comparing the costs//prices quoted here for both set ups. the Fullsac is stated at a $600 savings-approx 45%more, in most budgets that would be a significant amount  :2vrolijk_21:  :nixweiss:

so...it appears simply the statement ..."best bang for the buck" doesn't hold much value---the correct statement would seem to be "I just want to know how much did I gain for my $$$ spent..."  & "...paid a little extra for the Rush slip-ons because i like "that" sound..."   :2vrolijk_21:  :nixweiss:  :2vrolijk_21:

All of that being :jack: the simple truth is we all do what we want and try to be different and justify in our own minds as to what is "best for my situation"  as long as we continue to do that the will continue to make different bikes and different colors for different folks...and remember we are on a CVO because we can be!!!

Hey guy's

I did not post this thread to argue about the comparisons between the Fullsac vs the Jackpot, the canned tune vs  dyno tune, the Fullsac baffles vs the Rush slip-ons and whether I should have it tuned before having a baseline tune or not and all of the cost variables between them.

This thread was about my purchasing the mods that I think is MY best Bang for the Buck and the added HP and TQ that it will buy me. I am going to post these before and after dyno charts so that others that are looking at similar mods can have an idea of what gains I got for the $$$ and hopefully that will help them make their own decisions.

You have a right to your opinion, but there are other threads to debate apples vs oranges vs pears and what constitutes a bushel.
