Well now at age fifty+ my wife has had both knees replaced, the first replacement that was done seven years ago had to be redone last year, because the part that was in the lower part of her leg became loose. So she has had a total of three TNR. I can tell you for certain that if you put off getting the replacement sooner or later (probably sooner) the shots and the pain meds won't come close to easing the pain and discomfort. Don't worry about having to have them redone in 10 to 15 years. Get rrr done and enjoy life without pain. Don't know why Vickie's knee came loose but she is a little clumsy and had fallen down a lot. Her doctor said a case like hers only happens in 2% of knee replacements. She is doing great now! Oh yeah you are also a patient! No question you should find a new doctor ASAP! Sometimes the assistant checked her on pre-op and post-op visits but anytime she asked to see the doctor she always got to see him...he was never "too busy" to see her when she needed him.

Get'r done! Val tried the prolong the surgery as long as she could trick. Multiple injections of Cortisone and the Chicken shot nothing really help. All it did was stress her better knee. Now it is acting up. So there are big pay me now or pay me later affect to TNR.

Can't believe that he is so busy he doesn't have time to stick his head in the door for 5 minutes. Whose gonna do the surgery? His assistant?

Thanks for  the support and the PM's guys and gals  :2vrolijk_21:   I'm actually taking the advice 99% of you suggested; find another doctor that cares  :2vrolijk_21:...  I actually found out later that the l knee Doc I selected was not the Doc that was going to perform the surgery. My Doc handed me off to another Doc in the med group because my Doc was to busy with other patients.  I'm with (was) Med Clinic, Mercy San Jaun in Sacramento and argued with their patients avocet about this and they simply said this process is perfectly normal and couldn't understand why I was so upset. They just say all their doctors are equally qualified. Not for me. I started process to change providers, I have an option to go to Hills Physicians Group.  I'm told they have some really good ortoscopic doctors on staff. I can also select a PPO plan and choose any doctor in the world, but my cost share is very high, but I'm not ruling this out either. This whole mess could really mess up some future plans this May.  My wife and I are planning on taking two months off, everything already approved with employers, and visiting Europe. There would be no way I could do this with my bad knee. I'm at a point now where just getting out of a chair is very painful because my knee locks up. If I can't this done by February, we will be scrapping plans.  I should be in Hills group by end of the week so ill be looking out for doctors very quickly and defiantly will consider suggestions some of you PM'd me..

Can follow you straight. Killed my cruciate ligament and meniscus 2006, playing
handball. The doctor took out the thorn parts and that was it. By time
the problems with water in my knee started to get worth. Now after
a MRI the same doctor announced a rebuild of my knee in 10 years,
but said that's when he is retired so he wan't care anymore. I changed
the doctor after I went out of the room.

Same her in europe/switzerland: it's just money doctors take care
of, no longer the patients. For me they are at the same level as a
good mechanic, you have to search for a good one and stay with him.

Now, I think I'm in better hands: rebuild of the cruciate ligament and
a replacement of the meniscus (organ donation) is announced and
appointment to make just to get around the vacations ( e.g. 110 HD in Rome).

My wife had a TKR back on February 8th of this year (she is 51).  We climbed on the bike and rode to Ashville, NC from central Oklahoma on May 24th... we covered about 2600 miles by the time we got back home on May 31st.
Now, she is a pretty tough girl.... and she hit the physical therapy pretty hard, knowing that she wanted to be ready for the trip.  We rode 500 - 600 miles per day and she did great.
So, if you can get in soon, you should be able to keep your plans for next May.
Good Luck  ;)

Like the others said, it’s a lousy system if that’s how they’re running the business.

I’ve got an EPO (like and HMO) with Blue Shield and have had several surgeries over the last few years.   Each time I see the Orthopedic Surgeon, not his assistant.  It’s to the point now we’re on a first name basis. Not the optimum situation and would have rather not had the treatment at all, but totally different than what you described.

We are in San Jose, so it’s not a small town thing.  This past month, I’ve had two surgeries on my left index finger, due to an infection from a splinter.  Not only do I see him on each visit; he has seen me on less than a half hours’ notice when we realized the infection.  This is the kind of care that we should be able to expect.

I hope you’re able to get the care you need.  My wife Deedee is due for both knees from softball injuries.  She’s had the orthoscopic repairs, but it’s not enough.  She’s been putting it off, but it’s getting to the point when she sits for a while, we have to help her stand.  Hopefully, she’ll get the work done soon.

Wishing you good health and care. :2vrolijk_21:

Last week I filed a complaint with insurance (Blue Sheld) and got call from one of their appeals officer last night and learned something very interesting. For any type of surgery, the doctors are contracted to visit patient in person mininium of three times; initial office visit, pre-opp and post-pp. She said most doctors provide better care then the mininium. I'm in situation, the doctor (Dr. Junglas) failed one of the contract requirements, the pre-op. For whatever it means for this doctor, Blue Shield is filing a formal complaint to my provider.  Another interesting twist, I got a call yesterday by the a director of patient health with Dignity Health (my provider) apologizing  for the incident, putting blame on one of their staff members, that no longer works with them and practically begging me to set up an appointment to visit the doctor in person. Of course I didn't take her offer, I'm already in the works to switch over to Hills and checking into three highly recommended doctors.   With any luck I might get surgery before end of this year or early Jan by a competent doctor   :2vrolijk_21:
