Hello O' Fender......I just happen to have bought the same speakers you did and the sound was o.k in the garage but out on the road it was kind of disappointing.  I was thinking about putting a bigger amp in when I came across your post and seen you had a fit problem.  I was trying to find a factory amp that plug into the radio at 80 watts or maybe hard wiring one in myself,  But size is a issue for sure.  I was thinking about adding that resistor to up the ohms though.....I did find something cool that plays Mp3 music in the cassette deck and got it for like 16 bucks as a open box but it was new,  I bought three and they all worked.....It's called digisette and I found it on ebay, They use to sell new for big bucks,   Model number AR496.....I was impressed with the sound and the player actually got louder with this thing plugged in.......It also had a built in EQ with five settings.  Much better sound then the raido player for sure....I just need to get a bigger memory flash card so I can get like six Cd's on it........Nice postings on this site and hope to read more.......Flhtcui rider here/me

I do alot of riding at 80MPH (sometimes a little faster) the music disappears at about 70-75MPH and I have the radio @ 95% volume (at 100% distorts badly). So I believe a really efficient amp is the answer. I did order a different Memphis amp, I called the manufacturer this time to verify the dimensions. They were really helpful and apologized for the incorrect dimensions advertised for the previous purchase. hopefully I will have better luck (the new purchase is 150 watt amp [75x2]) much closer to what the factory radio offered!!! I will keep you posted [smiley=6.gif]

I am so pleased with the sound system I find it clear and audiable even at speed.
It was neither on my BMW

I emailed polk about the 4 ohm differance with the Harley 8 ohm and this is what they said.

Ed,
The db525 speakers will work fine with the factory Harley head unit.
The industry standard for car speakers is 4 Ohms. Just be careful not to
drive the internal amplifier into clipping and distortion . It is the
clipping and distortion from a amplifier being overdriven that causes
speakers to fail.

Thanks,
Kim

Yo Big D,
Did you mean the stock SEEG system or did you upgrade the speakers to HogTunes?

My Hogtunes arrived today and wow, these things wreek of quality!  If they sound half as good as you guys say they do, I will be one happy camper.  Plus, a 20 year warranty and all for $107.45 delivered.  These things are a no-brainer!

Another nice thing is they utilize the factory terminals.  No cutting/soldering/splicing.  Nice product! [smiley=beerchug.gif]

103, your mentioning the terminals reminded me of something.  Be sure and do more than just quickly plugging the spade connectors back on.  Actually give them a feel.  On mine the + connector on each side needed to be crimped back down.  Would have been way loose if I'd just stuck it on quickly and not paid any attention.

Mr., Check out the portion of the service manual that DavidB posted here.  It's pretty easy surgery to get inside the fairing.  2land also posted some good tips about keeping track of the hardware as you remove the screws.

Hope that help.

I got to ride my bike today for only about 50 miles and use said HogTune speakers. Awesome. Since my bike is virtually new, I never really got to get used to the stock, but the new speakers are a considerable noticable improvement. They sound Tony the Tiger "GGGRRRREEEEAAAAAAATE!"  Thanks Pez for making them, Thanks Mr WeCVO for thinking I needed them and for ordering them and getting them put on my bike.  These are absolutely awesome speakers.  I hope the wrencher who put my speakers on did a better job then it sounds like they did for Mr We,  but then....... I might just have to learn how to do somethings.  Guess what I did today... after riding 50 miles, don't know my way aroung so that is kinda of funny all in itself, found my way back home and put on the air deflector kit I just picked up.  Now, I have shared before, I do not know my way around them thar wrenches..... but next to the peel and stick chrome things for the inner fairing, I could not probably have picked an easier install.  I needed them to stick military stickers to so I can take my bike on a military base next week. Not like waiting till the last minute eh?  HOG TUNES, HOG TUNES,   All the way!   {smiley waving orange and black pom poms, kicking high in air.... (text version of emoticon)} [smiley=laugh.gif]

About half the bikes Ive done installs on have had at least one broken fairing mount. Ive found that HD dealers know this is an issue, and they usualy have the replacememnts in stock--here in Toronto anyways.

Ride safe all! Spring is almost here

Cheers--PEZ
