I heard that to be effective is has to be given to you by a friend and placed at the lowest possible area of your bike, that way the gremlins can never reach any part of the bike. :cucumber:.

Yep, this is the legend behind the bell if you believe in such things. Two things you have to do with the bell:

1) You can't buy it for yourself and

2) It has to be mounted on the lowest part of your bike.

I used a key chain ring and looped it through a hole that was already in the plate on the bottom of the frame near the oil cooler. Then the bell was looped onto the key chain ring.

From Google (Where ALL THINGS ARE TRUE!)  :)

"There are motorcycle gremlins (AKA: Evil Road Spirits) that LOVE to ride, but they are also mischievous little devils and they cause all sorts of problems for you while you are riding. Road gremlins leave obstacles in your path- old mufflers, pieces of rubber, boxes and things like that. Some say they are responsible for that old lady in the minivan not seeing you and cutting you off in traffic. Or, you may be having trouble shifting smoothly, your battery goes dead, your turn signal suddenly refuses to work, an oil spill appears out of nowhere, etc - you get the idea. Those little gremlins look for trouble and try to steer your bike towards it. Road gremlins hope to make a biker crash so they can rejoice over their little acts of evil.
Once you get a bell on your scoot - it wards off these attacks from the little gremlins, not allowing any more to get onto your bike. If you already have some gremlins riding with you, they will get trapped in the hollow of the bell, and the constant ringing will drive them insane - causing them to lose their grip and fall to the roadway.
When you purchase a motorcycle bell and place it on your bike, it offers protection. If you receive the gremlin bell as a gift - the powerful magic of the bell is doubled. When you place it on your bike, you want it to be low to the ground, but not so low it will catch on obstacles and come off. Place it as forward as possible, so that the road gremlins will jump away when they first see you.
Motorcycles bells come in all types, small angel bells, patriotic bells, dealers specific bells, POW bells, etc. No matter if you believe in road gremlins or not, a road bell and regular preventive maintenance goes a long way to keep you feeling safe and secure."

Wow, I didn't realize that I have been violating the "gremlin bell code" for all these years.  I simply attach the bells to my key chains -- but, after reading the code, that doesn't seem to follow the code.  No wonder that I have been dodging deer, mufflers, ladders and mattresses all these years.  SJ Ron

I don't doubt the power of The Gremlin Bell, I really don't. Every little bit helps. In the mean time I'll continue to keep my skills up with regular practice, and work on defensive riding.

Greetings,

Sometime back I worked at a old school H-D shop in southwest Ohio.  The owner was a grizzly old timer but a great guy with a very dry sense of humor.  One day he grabbed me and and took me back into the warehouse to show me something.   In the back of this rather large warehouse sat eight wrecked motorcycles all in a line waiting on insurance adjusters or just repair funds.  On each and every one of those bikes was a "gremlin bell".  Cracked me up.

Needless to say I have never sported one on any of my bikes!!!!   Still happy to sell them though as they are popular gifts.

Several stories in the little bags, must depend on the manufacturer.

Seen the ones about gremlins and have also seen one that indicates the ringing is so that your Guardian Angel can find you.

Gremlin Bells obviously work for Gremlins, but there wasn't anything in the write up that says that they cure stupidity.....hence the 8 wrecks all with bells.  8)

Hate to be a spoil-sport, but the only time I ever hung one of those bells was on a bike totalled within it's first year..... I now keep the bell in a little locked coffin beside my tool box.... :2vrolijk_21:

Not sure why so many people worry about Gremlins, they haven't been sold since 1978 so there can't be too many left on the road...J/K..    :huepfenlol2:
