Magazine insert cards.....
« on: November 24, 2012, 05:11:57 PM »

I just got an issue of American Iron magazine today and when I opened it, out fell 6 subscription offer cards.
How does the post office damage other mail and packages yet these cards stay in a magazine?
I noticed that all six cards had postage paid so I decided to write on them "Please stop putting in magazine" where they wanted my name and address.
Maybe if enough people send them back their cards and they have to pay postage then this practice of blown in cards will stop.
I think I will do this for all magazines now.
What do you folks think?

sometimes when I get junk mail with postage paid return envelopes I mix up more junk mail in them and mail em. Send em some different junk mail back.

More than likely the magazines we receive as subscriptions come down the same line as those that are sold at stores/magazine stands. The subscription offer cards are stuffed in the hopes that they get those that are not subscribers to sign up. On the magazines I subscribe to I usually pull them out (attached and unattached) and use them as bookmarks while I'm reading the magazine. IMO no biggie and not a PITA as other things in life can be. :nixweiss:

I agree the damn things are a big pain and sometimes keep you from being able to read a particular article cause the card is "stiff" and doesn't let the page lay down flat.........so ya rip it out of the way (if it wasn't already loose) and sometimes that tears the page you wanna read.

Not sure just how far away we may all be from no mags............as they wanna go online.  I'm sure that some of you (like me) are getting and have been getting offers for mag subscriptions where the "going" price is $80 annual or more,  and they wanna sign you up for $8.   Super deals for some,  but I just throw 'em away.

And I too.....use those pesky things as bookmarks.

I love it when I get junk mail with return paid postage envelopes. I just tear their garbage into into tiny shreds and and mail it back to them on their dime.....  Eventually they will stop mailing you their garbage.   >:(

Well the magazines are still at it......I got American Iron and Motorcycle Bagger yesterday and between the two there was 9 subscription cards loose in them. I guess one didn't make it through our postal service..  :huepfenlol2:

I will be sending all nine back to them on their dime...   :2vrolijk_21:

you could always go through the magazines, write down all the editors names, google their address then fill out and mail the subscription cards with their name and address    :P

i think that if this is the biggest thing you have to worry about, i want your life :D

i really don't see the big deal and don't understand why you would want to 'punish' the parent company of the magazine that you enjoy to read.  maybe if enough people did as you suggested and sent in the cards on their dime, the company would fold and you wouldn't have to worry about those pesky cards anymore.

I'm with you. They are a pain in the butt.

Might I suggest that if you find them to be a pain in this particular area that you may not be using them in the manner that they are intended?

This is a great idea. I used to subscribe to Wood magazine for several years. Guys were alway complaining about  all the cards that were in the magazine. In the end the solution was to find creative uses for the cards, shims, spacers, for wiping glue, etc. I like your idea better.

Wow...if all my magazines quit publishing in paper and went electronic, what would I read while on the crapper?   :nixweiss:
