Sometimes you eat the bear.  Sometimes the bear eats you.... ;)

Wow, that was something else.  Spent a week camping in the middle of the Okefenokee swamp when I was a teenager in Boy Scouts.  Young and dumb back then.  Would never do it today and after seeing these pictures, only camping I would do would be by Airstream, Winnebago, or Comfort Inn....not worth it.

Yeh, a house is one thing; but a tent to a Polar Bear is a wrapping for a tasty morsel inside.... :drink:

Vicious attack!

From Wikipedia

The polar bear is the largest terrestrial carnivore, being more than twice as large as the Siberian tiger.[37] It shares this title with the Kodiak Bear.[38] Adult males weigh 350–680 kg (770–1500 lbs) and measure 2.4–3 m (7.9–9.8 ft) in length.[39] The Guinness Book of World Records listed the average male as having a body mass of 386 to 408 kg (850 to 900 lb) and a shoulder height of 133 cm (4.36 ft).[40] Adult females are roughly half the size of males and normally weigh 150–250 kg (330–550 lb), measuring 1.8–2.4 metres (5.9–7.9 ft) in length. When pregnant, however, they can weigh as much as 500 kg (1,100 lb).[39] The polar bear is among the most sexually dimorphic of mammals, surpassed only by the pinnipeds.[41] The largest polar bear on record, reportedly weighing 1,002 kg (2,210 lb), was a male shot at Kotzebue Sound in northwestern Alaska in 1960.[40] This specimen, when mounted, stood 339 cm (11.12 ft) tall.[40] The shoulder height of an adult polar bear is 122 to 160 cm (48 to 63 in).[40][42]

Shore wus...made Eagle way back in 1975....wow time flies when your havin' so much fun.  Seems like yesterday.  Had a great scoutmaster that believed in monthly trips that involved at least 35 miles of hiking each time.  Had week long trips once a year...have been in the swamp (as stated), spend a week in the Grand Canyon, hiked the last 300 miles of the Appalachian trail (one week trips spread over three years...and never saw a bear in the Smokies...go figure), went to 1977 National Scout Jamboree...I could go on and on.  Great experience and sorry for  :jack: this one but longlast brought back memories.

Have to say, never had a hat like that, however.  Must be a British thing..... :2vrolijk_21: ;D

I was going to say, I think in Bear-Speak, they call tents, tortillas.  Frankly, I wouldn't tent in Grizzley/Polar Bear territory even if there was a chain lined fence with razor wire aroudn the perimeter.  I've even seen stories about those things pounding, chewing and clawing their way through log cabins for chrisakes.

No sir.

The bear lost the fight keep going there's more

Gotta be more to this story,,,  we saw the results from the tremendous fight from the survivor but how the hell did the bear loose this battle?? I'm suspecting Mr. Bear was shoot,  he certainty didn't loose a by a fist fight  :o   did Mr. Bear get shot by survivor or someone coming to the rescue...  I'll say one thing, the survivor is one tough dude, and god was on his side that day.    :2vrolijk_21:

Hey, Ultra1, a fellow Eagle here.   :jack: Was awarded mine in '81.  Just goes to show, the BSA had to really lower their standards after '75 if they let me in.   :-\

Scouting is the reason I have no desire to camp outdoors again.  We went camping overnight every month, even in winter.  Can you imagine camping in Idaho in winter???  That was definitely child abuse.  :nervous: :nervous:

Speaking of the '77 National Jamboree, was it the one in PA and DC?  My troop went, but I was the only one who didn't go.  I had a choice between spending my money for the Jamboree or a buying a new motorbike.  It was a no brainer for me.   :orange: :mango: :bananarock:
