Thank you all for the compliments. They're appreciated!
Boy, does that get bad thoughts rolling. What's involved in the cockpit area changeover. Very nice work. Love it when a plan comes together. JoeS
Thanks Joe. At this point, looking back, it wasn't a very difficult project. I started out with a parts manual for a 2012 FLTRXSE, and began compiling a list of parts in a spreadsheet, down to specific bolts, plugs, wiring clips, fairings, etc. and then compared it with online parts fiches for the SG parts. Some were able to transfer over, but not all. My goal the entire time was to make it look as though MOCO made the bike. It looks stock, but for those who are enthusiasts, they'll recognize the difference.
After that, it's just a matter of removing the batwing and the fairing brackets, and rebuilding from the neck up into a RG. Since they share the same frame, everything bolts on pretty easily. I did have to change out the lower ABS brake line, and since I went to taller bars from the 14" PYO bars, I had to add an upper brake line and new clutch cable to the mix.
The RG uses a different wiring harness in the fairing, in that certain sections are longer or shorter, etc, suited to the different style fairing. All the connectors are the same, so it's a simple plug and play.
As for cost, I was able to sell much of my take off stuff, but I did keep the painted parts. After running thru the numbers, including paint, I am into this for about $3500. There is no way I could have come out ahead by trading. Plus, I love the color on this bike, and after a couple years riding, it's
my bike - I just didn't want to start over.
If you're really interested, I can send you the parts list. Just shoot me a PM.
I have never seen that done before.
. But I've got to say that it looks really GREAT
Some of the guys on the regular HD forum have done this. But, you're right, it's not very common, especially on a CVO bike.
