need some help, what would you do?
« on: January 20, 2013, 04:25:24 PM »

Saturday Jan 19th 2013 I traded my 01SERG for a 2011 SERGU.
The bike looked mint. The HD dealer did all the work on the 2011 and had the history of the bike. I do the deal, ride the bike 50 miles home, It was a great ride home. I get home and I see oil on my right leg and all of the right side of the bike coming from the breather. I took apart the breather and there was oil and water looked at the oil dip stick and it had a milky watery slime on it. Should I walk away from this? Let the dealer fix whats wrong? What would you do?

Start with diagnosing the problem first then make your decision. Things happen and if you can see all the service records and the motor has been well maintained, this could be fixed and you could never (within reason) have another problem. Or its a major issue that you might not want to get involved with..

Almost sounds as if they somehow got water in the oil while prepping it and now the case is overfull. I'd give them a call for sure.

Nice bike btw. :2vrolijk_21:

It is a common problem with the 110, when the engine oil is over filled. Check the oil level.

If you weren't from Brooklyn I 'd say drain it and don't overfill it but...

CAN YOU SAY HURRICANE SANDY ? Maybe it's a clean and trade from the flood, just be careful.

Except for the oil on the bike I used to have that happen to my oil when it was really cold out and I was just doing short litle jonts then shutting bike off have couple beers and repeat.(ie bar-hopping) Think it would heat up then cool down and it was just condensation. Changed the oil and all was good.

Firstly, check the oil level as noted above.  Then:  Is the air cleaner stock?  If it is not, are the correct breather bolts installed?  That could cause the problem you describe.

Just had another thought after seeing your pictures... Looks like someone rode in the rain without the rain sock and the water got sucked in through the filter. Clean the filter, drain the oil.

Naturally you need to call the dealer - He has a right to address the problem first - The problem looks strange, but I have found water in my transmission. I assume it was introduced while riding 2 days in a storm. Did you buy an extended warranty? It may be time. Good luck with your new ride. Tom

It happened to a buddy of mine and when he took it in they said it was water in the oil caused by condensation! stop starting, short trips around town, he was lucky, no damage,

Yes I did buy an extended warranty. and a quick release for the tour pack. The HD dealer is in south NJ AND NOW Im thinking SANDY!
What if the previous owner let the insurance go because they weren't riding anymore, it was end of season and SANDY came and the bike got flooded. No insurance, no money, out over $30,000.
I did ask if the bike was in SANDY, and was told no. Plus I signed a statement that my serg was not flooded.  I got home Saturday after being at the dealer all day, 5:55pm they closed at 6. no one answered my call, spoke to a manger today and was told someone from service would call me first thing Monday.
