Fuel Tank Capacity
« on: September 11, 2006, 12:37:14 AM »

Well I found out the hard way yesterday how much fuel the SEEG holds. I had 2.5 miles to get to the gas station when the engine quit the 1st time. I shook the bike from side to side and managed to get it started and made it the rest of the way using this method 2 more times. The last gulp of gas was gone as I approached the station and I managed to coast up to the pump. Thank God I didn't have to push it or be spitting gas trying to siphon off from my wifes bike. Anyways, it took 5.23 gallons and believe me it was EMPTY!!!. I had nearly run out in Wyoming last month and it took 5.1 gallons then.
And by the way it took the 5.23 gallons without be overfilled and coming out the overflow.

After having visited the bottom of the tank once the red bike took 5.49 gallons.  Have heard of around 5.5 from a couple others too.  You might have had fumes left you hadn't even smelled yet!  ;D

I might have been able to squeeze a bit more in the tank but not without overfilling it. It was definitely empty.

I'm going to check my fuel tank strainer and see if I have some silt or build up at the bottom. Maybe that will account for the 1/4 gallon difference. 1/4 gallon may not seem like much difference but it could be up to 8 miles give or take. I had stalled 3 times and the last time it didnt restart until I filled it.

On a couple of occasions I have put 5.2 & 5.35 in mine, Keep in mind that even though the pumps are suppose to be exact I seriously doubt all of them are. Another possibility is the amount of fuel in the pump supply hose. There can easily be 1/4 gallon of fuel sitting in the hose.

I've managed to put 5.35 gallons in mine, filled as per my normal routine up to the bottom of the filler neck and the little holes in the overflow while on the jiffy stand.

There's another thread on this buried somewhere in the history of this site.  5.3 seemed to be the norm, with a few getting 5.4.

If you slow down too fast or are coming down from an overpass and you're that low, your bike will die.  Anytime the gas goes to the front of the tank.  I had that experience again this past Friday.......before I finally made it to the gas station.

This is a funny story --- still, but the bottom line I put in 5.473 gallons of gas. It was very - very empty.

....{Oh, and by the way, Styrophome cups will not hold gas - it has to be glass or plastic.  Don't ask how we found out. }...
You two??? Funny how those cups start to leaning/melting/disintegrating when gasoline gets hold of them, huh? [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

;D  I am serious about the smell.  I instantly slipped back in time to when the A&Ws where drive ups.  A pretty young lass slung out burgers, fries and of course........ A&W rootbeer and floats.  The smell of rootbeer was very strong.

How's this for a pickup line.  All the guys try to nod me forward when we are leaving parking areas in groups, but I told Karl, I wanted him to go first so "I could smell him."  hee hee hee.    ;D   ;D   ;D
