2011.5 Blue 41,000 miles DOA
« on: January 22, 2013, 07:10:55 PM »

The 2011.5 Big Blue left me stranded with 41,000 miles. Found out today from dealer rear oil tappet "exploded". Harley has made decision to replace complete motor.

That really sucks. I wonder what cause that to fail. Another reason I'm buying the esp for mine. I plan on keeping it at least another 50k miles.

Poor quality parts imo.  ESP is a smart move if you plan to put a lot of miles on the bike.   :2vrolijk_21:

It must be clean living on this deal. The bike has 6 weeks left on the 2yr warranty and I have been getting quotes on the ESP.

Since I have the same bike and travel long distances in the middle of nowhere, were there any early warning signs on this problem?  Could anything have been done to avoid the problem?  SJ Ron

This is my 3rd ultra cvo in a row and this motor had been to best sounding motor out of all 3 from day 1 and never had a single issue with all service performed every 5000K at HD. I had ridden about 250 miles on the day of motor death. In a 3 mile stretch the motor went from an in and out chirping/squealing sound and speratic power cut out to clatter clatter clatter. Not sure it could have been prevented with no sign of failure up to its last 3 miles.
