Fixing heated seats
« on: September 12, 2006, 08:51:02 AM »

Well I brought my bike in for it's 500 mile service and they are now contemplating on wether to replace my seat.  The temperature on high only gets to 98 degrees.  I will hopefully have the bike back soon as I will need those heated seats due to the weather changes.

How hot are they supposed to get and how do you measure the temp?

Don't know how they measure the temp but if I have mine on high and are riding for an extended period of time I have to set the switch to the lower setting.

I guess they could use a rectal thermometer?

On my 2006....the heated seat on LOW was tooooo hot to keep on full time.  We could not even think of the high setting.

Guys  I have a few questions on my Heated seat. First off I am trying to figure out if it's even working.

1) Does the accessory switch need to be on for the seat to get power.

2) How long does it take to get warm

3) The guys with the 07 FLHTCUSE2  . Have you tried your seats ???

I have a 2006 - I believe it's the same seat.
1) The accessory switch does not need to be on
2) About 2 minutes
3) N/A
BTW, I had the original seat on mine replaced due to a seam coming apart. The replacement seat heats MUCH quicker and gets MUCH hotter.... Bonus!!  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] :) :)

Reason I asked about the Accessory switch. I removed the seat and tested the connectors. I didn't have 12 volt until I turned on the accessory switch. If the seat warmed any it wasn't much. Grasping at straws here.. I think the seat will need replaced.

Take a look at this. Your seat may be plugged into the wrong connector!

Mine was plugged into the wrong plug. Had to dig deep and partly remove the battery to find the right plug. Works now.

Thanks for the help.

My seat works awesome.....as do my hand grips.  Now.........if I could just get the paint squared away, I'd be good to go.

As for measuring the temp..........they do it with an infrared thermometer.  If you ever watch NASCAR, you'll see pit crews using IR thermometers to measure track and tire temperature.  Seems it would be a good tool to see if the thermostat in your oil cooler is working properly.  They're relatively inexpensive..........~$40.
