I'm thinking the kit/upgrade he is doing suggests the Timken bearing upgrade. If this is so, and he does this upgrade wouldn't this require the cases to be split?

Don, just had thought if you do decide to split the cases I would be interested in seeing the area between the motor and transmission (pictures please). In particular I

It's already got that GP Designs outer bearing support installed.  For the 113 kit I'd accept the Timken change as a necessity.  Not having to do it was yet another reason I went the way I did.

Brian, it may or not be the case but this has always been my theory on that line of dirt and muck we see there.  The area behind it is an empty area.  It's the mating area between the engine and tranny cases.  It's not even gasketed.  Heating and cooling cycles are going to cause pressure differences inside and outside that chamber.  So any oil soaked vapor inside or outside the chamber will slowly get pushed or pulled to that edge.  It's sort of like the Twin Cam's own little weather phenomenon.  I've found that covering that seam with a chrome cover fixes the problem quite nicely.
That's what I was told also that it was an empty area w/o a gasket on that seam. I have noticed since upgrading to the Feuling Oil Pump, and Zippers Bypass Shim that the film seems to reappear more rapidly. I used to could clean it up and ride for several days before having it show its nasty head again, now it seems like every time I ride I'm using the Brake Kleen to get rid of the film. I guess I can be thankful and feel assured there is more pressure/volume of oil being produced in the motor, but the down side is the film is appearing more frequently. I guess I will need to consider the cover option more now.

You just missed it.  Not doing the Timken upgrade.  Awhile back in preparation for the current task installed the GP Designs bearing support.  Were the engine work markedly bigger than what I'm gaining it wouldn't likely be enough.  For what I'm doing it should be.  This was yet another reason I stayed in the ballpark I did.  Could support the crank with the external component and not have to pull it apart further.  If the bike had actually had to suffer down-time for the current job it would already be at five months or more.  Splitting the cases too would have meant I'd never have ridden ever again.

But after will have to wait until.... probably next weekend.

For curiousity's sake here is a side by side of the heads to at least suggest what Zippers is doing with the CNC machine.
