for cams, your looking at around 2.5 hours, head gaskets around another hour.but are you doing heads just for the .030 gaskets? i would waste the time unless some headwork was going to be done.TC motors dont have base gaskets, they have O rings and theres no reason to mess with them if only heads are being removed

Kirby, that is not 100 true and a bit too general a statement in the form you left it.   It is only true for Factory Delivered twin cam Motors in a frame from Harley, just not all Twin Cams.

eg. 120r, Jims 120,131,135, S&S 124

Sorry Kirby just clearing up the miss information, but your getting closer now ... The 120r is an HD Twin Cam and it has base gaskets :)

its sad, but I think you may be giving to much credit to those that have purchased the big motors, in your belief that just because someone has a big motor that they know anything about it, but you are entitled to that opinion.

The HD 113" uses a base gasket as well :D
And since we're being exact on the information the 110" does not use an o-ring either......it uses a quad ring

An O-ring or quad ring would also qualify as a gasket, if we want to get technical about it.  However, the statement that precipitated this pizzing contest is accurate in that it is not necessary to replace the base gasket/O-ring/quad ring if the cylinder isn't disturbed or removed.  So if all you're doing is removing the head to replace the head gasket, feel free to leave the cylinder and base gasket/O-ring/quad ring alone.  Overly anal folks might be able to make a case for removing the cylinders to replace the base sealing parts (call them what you will), which would then necessitate cleaning up the bores with a hone and installing new rings, ad infinitum.  Normal people on the other hand know that all the overkill is just wasted time and money.
