slammed my leg over the bike when I was hopping mad and laid my calf on the rt side pipe of D&D pipe.

sure enough my leg cannot tell the difference from 550 degrees and 750 degrees.

I still have that scar

One of the reasons I am seriously considering putting my V&H TD's back on. Burning my gear or my leg is getting old.

That rt side "S" on D&D sucks,  melted some rain gear and burned my leg. I do like the way they sound compared to the V&H though

had my non-catted head pipe on my '09 CVO jet hot coated. have not yet coated my de-catted head pipe on my '13 CVO.  but I will because for me it made a difference I could feel.  it was cooler for both me and my bsr.  as far as a performance difference...no claim on that.

liked the cooler pipe.  liked the fact that overall the bike cooled down quicker after a stop.  liked the fact that the pipe never changed color from the silver jet hot coating.  it was worth the minimal cost as compared to the other upgrades I was doing.

I don't know the specific coating used. It's a black coating rated to 1800 degrees. I did notice the areas of the pipe that weren't wrapped looked fine, but the parts the wrap covered looked pretty bad. I might have a picture of the damage at home if you're interested in what it looked like. I'm out of town for work though and won't be able to post it until next weekend if you want to see it.

Before I wrapped the pipes, I had seen another post or two (possibly on another site?) warning that rust could be a problem even with ceramic coated pipes. I think they said something about the wrap holding moisture against the pipe, and then it turns to steam from the exhaust heat.

At the time I wrapped my pipes, I was mostly interested in protecting my BSR from the heat and thought that the ceramic coating would be able protect the pipes from rusting. But I guess that's experience -knowledge you have after it's too late!
