GPS set up ?
« on: March 19, 2013, 05:04:38 PM »

I have a CVO SG 2010, my question is Can I plug the power cord off the GPS into the cig. lighter rather than hard wiring it?  :nixweiss: Will it hurt any thing? :nixweiss:  Don't want to hurt something and not be able to fix it on the road. Thanks for the help.

I've run mine that way for most of a season now (installing it internal to the handlebars when I do the bars, etc all at once)...and any rentals I've had over the years too. Only thing to watch out for is some of the lighter plugs stick out far enough to make contact with the tank when fully turned to the left.

I have had problems with the plug hitting the tank when the bars are turned full left.  Also have had issues with poor connection at times.

If you decide to hard mount it to the dash like the cvo ultras I have a HD dash pad with the holes pre drilled and the HD gps mount kit for sale.  I took mine off a month after buying the bike because I had to relocate my GPS due to my new bars.  I have it for sale on ebay and here is the link http://www.ebay.com/itm/171011249210?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

I will sale Pad by itself for $140 GPS fairing mount for $30 or both together for $160.  Both are New condition.

The pics on ebay don't show the pre drilled holes you need to run the cables through the pad and through inner fairing.

There's an easy solution to the plug touching the tank with left turns... only turn right!

You can get a plug that is angled so it won't bang into the tank.  Look at the truck stops.

Anyone needing a wiring module for 660 or 665 that connects to the handle bars I have one. Bought it thinking I could use it to mount on my fairing. You have to drill to large of a hole in the fairing for it to work it would be fine for handle bar mount. sprinkman
