New SG is very hot
« on: March 20, 2013, 07:48:37 PM »

I bought a new CVO SG today, didn't get a lot of miles on it yet only about 40 miles but man that is one hot bike, my right calf is almost frying. I plan to get thigh heat deflectors probably the Kuryakin ones in smoke, but is there anything that will help with the lower heat area. Worried I am going to fry my legs in the Florida heat.

There is a plug and play item made by nightrider.com. About 120 dollars or so. A potentiometer that causes the ECM to add more fuel in closed loop. If you are planning on making some other changes, you can get a Master Tuner, Super Tuner, Direct link or the like and find yourself a good tuner.

Get rid of the CAT in your headers.   :2vrolijk_21:

Got another question, the clutch is very stiff, not impossible but at slow speeds and using the friction zone it's just heavy/stiff. Will that ease up with use or is there another way to make it a little easier (old arthritic hands here).

You are having the same issues I had when I got my SG.  I installed the V&H Powerduals and that got rid of the CAT and the right leg heat.  To reduce the clutch pull I installed the Clutch Wiz for 40% less pull.  Also added a heavier clutch spring.  Search the site for Clutch Wiz and you will find your answer, also check out ClutchWiz.com.

Get the ClutchWIZ (http://ClutchWIZ.com) and a 480 lb clutch spring from AIM. That will lessen your clutch pull down to 9 lbs or so... About 45-50% reduction. Better than a variable pressure clutch, and won't wear out cuz it's made of 7075 aircraft aluminum.

Details in my mods thread starting here... http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=66236.480

Also, go the Fullsac route to fix the engine heat... X-pipe (no cat), CVO PowerCore baffles, and a TTS MasterTune with the Fullsac cal to start. Installing 54H or 57H cams will really help, too. The stock SE 255 cams produce a lot of heat due to low duration and early compression. They are best used as paperweights. Engine will breathe a lot better with 54H cams.

Message me and I wills steer you to the right people to take care of those little things the dealer will try to rip you off for. Iam very close to you. You need to remove that head pipe and tune the bike to add more fuel to cool that rear cylinder down. Harley has to comply with all the EPA restrictions from the factory.

Good information from a member who has tested several options for the clutch and has a lot of experience with mods to the FLHXSE3. Definitely get rid of the stock head pipe and get a tuning device with a good map.

one pic of me today.
The bike has to go back to the dealership Friday because the rear brake is not working at all, pressure on the pedal and brake light comes on but it won't stop the bike.

thanks for all your suggestions, will be ordering a clutchwizard and spring it seems pretty fast. I will also investigate all the options for pipes.

It took quite a few miles before I felt like my rear brake was doing anything at all, but by all means get them checked ASAP.  You will always have a lot more stopping power with the front brakes.

there is zero stopping power with the rear brake! I tried it in slow traffic this afternoon just to double check it and it does nothing at all.

Thats very dangerous! It likely needs to be power bled on the Digital Technician... ABS brakes do not deal well with any air in the lines at all.

When I had the recall done on the rear brake switch defect, it came back spongy. I had to have them power bleed the rear brake to get it working properly again.

Ahh, welcome to the world of the 110" motor!!!!

After you change mufflers, headers, buy a tuner and get a proper tune in it the 110" will cool off but it's still a hot bike compared to the old 88" & 96" motors.

I keep my lowers off unless its below 60 degrees!

Look around the site and you'll get a thousand opinions. But generally getting rid of your existing exhaust, get it tuned and take off those lowers is the only way you're going to cool things off.

Good luck! You will love your CVO SG!!
