Front Fender replacement because of wheel weight
« on: March 25, 2013, 11:32:18 AM »

I am one of the unfortunate souls to have a wheel weight come off and dent my front fender. I know that quite a few of you have had this experience. But I wonder if you guys know this. When my fender was replaced I was told that my new fender was going to take a while because HARLEY DAVIDSON had to paint the fender. It took six weeks for my fender to come back. Well the fender I got back the paint it bubbling up on it and I got in touch with my dealer and to make a very long story short, a customer service rep told me that I need to send it back and they will send it to their CONTRACTOR who painted it to have it repainted. WHAT!!! In the mean time my bike is without a front fender and I expect six weeks of my bike sitting at the shop waiting for a fender. $36,00.00 dollar bike and thats the best they can do!!!  WOW.   CONTRACTOR?  >:(

Nothing new, all the CVO's have been painted by an outside contractor and not by Harley.  But expecting you to send the fender back to have the vendor repaint it is total BS.  Talk to your dealer (the actual dealer) about this BS and have him get involved with H-D.  The proper way to handle this is for the vendor to send another properly painted fender and then the dealer returns the bad fender to the vendor once the new one is installed.  That's the way it was with the previous regime at Harley, and I can't imagine the current idiots in charge thinking it's OK to have a customer without a fender for a month or more waiting for a fender.  See if you can get a contact number for the actual vendor and talk directly with them if necessary.

I'm guessing I'm "glad" to hear of all the other problems with the front fenders.  I bought a 2013 CVO FLHTCUSE8.  It had to go back to the shop to replace the left side cover 'cause the 3M cover had a bubble in it, back to the shop 'cause there was a blob of paint on the fencer, back to the shop 'cause the replacement fender had a scratch in it, back to the shop 'cause the right saddlebag lid paint was dinged, back to the 'shop 'cause the backrest and TourPak got into a scratching cat fight...are you getting my drift about outside vendors?  They and the attorneys are way up on my list, but that ain't for birthday or Christmas cards.  Grr!

Is this how the bike was delivered?

No my bike is a 2011. The wheel weight that damaged the first fender was about 4 months after purchase. This fender is about 8 months old. The bike is still under original manufacturers warranty. Bike still only has 4000 miles on it.

Got my attention here!  Mine is still new (picked up in Dec 12) but the weather here in Western PA has been too bad to get any miles on it so just cleaning and adding some extras  Yesterday I was cleaning the wheels and noticed the classy chrome plated wheel weights and though they looks nice.  But if they fly off that's not so good.  Do you think this is a common problem?  I have had 6 ultras but this if the first CVO.  Never lost a wheel weight OEM or replacement.  Is there a remedy?

This is my 3rd Ultra and my first C.V.O.also. This is the only bike that has trown wheel weights that I have owned. I read on this site where their have been quite a few that have thrown weights. I don't know of any fix for the problem the Moco just replaced the fender and re applied the weights on the rim. No real fix that I know of. They seem to come off in extreme heat which we have in Louisiana. Not real happy with Harley and the way they are dealing with me right now. >:(

Yes there is a Fix , and you will never use regular weights again , bike will ride better than new, and never have to worry about wheel weights coming off again.  I can tell you that i will never go back to wheel weights again, No matter what any one tells you this works       Dyna Beads  when you do have to buy new tires at some date just put new Dyna beads back in  the tires,  cheap compared   to a new fender , you will never have to worry about a dented  fender again !!!!!      Dyna Beads the only way to GO !!

You could just buy a new fender, about $900.  Wouldn't be without your bike quite as long and you would end up with a spare fender to put on when the weights come off again!

Is that what you did? If that is a picture of your bike you have the same model. Different color.

The MOCO replaced my front fender @ 3000 miles. Fender damaged from the weights coming off. Added Dyna Beads to both tires. No more wheel weights for me! I'ts out of the 2 year warranty & now it's my dime to replace them. I'll be buying some more as it will time to replace the tires before I ride to Sturgis.

This happened to me also. I need to get mine in to the dealer once the weather breaks.

I looked at mine and don't have any wheel weights nor do I show any spots on the rim where they broke loose  :nixweiss:

Yes, the dealer delivered my SEUC with the paint issues, but they've ben working closely with me to resolve them.  Been their customer since the early '80s and expected nothing less...yes, they've met all my expectations so I can't really knock the dealers, but the MOCO is coming on target.
