Tapping it in the last quarter inch is pretty normal. Having to really beat on it to go in or out is not. Sounds like you did it right!

Steve

I hope so.  I was surprised at how hard they came out though.  Hoping that my other set are easier.  I'm going to try and pull them out while the pipes are on the bike and hot.  Maybe they're harder to remove when cold?

There is a hands free way to remove the baffles and have fun at the same time. Remove all the hardware.
If you have grass in your yard, back the bike up to the edge and give the throttle a few good whacks.
Its best to shoot em out over the lawn for a nice soft landing. The DB increase right when they fly is real good too.

It's time for the NEW Fullsac catch net for easy core exchange.   ;D

Instructions

Strap it to the bike over rear of muffler with caps removed
Rev the engine until baffle pops out into catch net
Repeat on the second muffler

Note: For Off Road and Pissing the neighbors off use ONLY!

I'll be disappointed if they don't :D   If they've had a couple of beers, I can picture them reloading a few times...

Help,
My mechanic that's working on my exhaust said the sleeve is in one piece, is this purposely done so we have to cut it? And in guessing that we cut in 1/2?
Thanks.

FLSTFI Dave...when you took the packing off the 2.25 SD cores did you try them out to see what they sound like with no packing?

would be very interested what people think of the 2.25 SD with no packing.....would love to hear a set
I just did the DX header with the 2.25 SD and wish it was louder....but I like a deep sound and I'm guess if I remove the packing I will lose that deep sound(be more of a tin sound)..but would like it louder so not sure what I should do. :-\

The sleeve is one piece however it is not welded where the two edge butt against each other.  Imagine a rectangular metal screen that is rolled into a tube.  The two edges are not welded together where they meet.  This allows you to roll it tighter by squeezing it (rolling one edge under the other) so that you can slide it into the muffler after wrapping it with packing.  When you release the pressure after sliding it into the muffler, it will re-expand to hold the packing firmly against the outer wall of the muffler.

It was louder, it was also raspier sound.  I prefer the sound with packing.  Mine is a bit louder than it was stock due to 10.8 compression, head work and cam.
