TTS/SEPST question
« on: May 11, 2013, 12:19:04 PM »

I currently run a TTS loaded map on my bike, but will need to switch to the SEPST, as that is what my tuning guy uses.

Do I have to re-load the factory map on the bike using the TTS before he can load a SEPST map, or can he just load one that will over ride the one I have?

Thanks.

It depends on which version of a map you have in the bike.

If it was me, I'd load the stock map back in the bike and let the guy start from scratch.

I agree, load the stock map back and let your tuner start from scratch

No you don't....as soon as he loads the Pro Tuner in the ECM the TTS map will be gone and he will be starting with the SEPST base map.

What base map?  The stock one?  I'm just asking because I want to be informed and not ignorant (as much as is possible for me).

Dont know but my tuner will probably flash in a map he created from a 2009 110 that he did the same work to, and will then tweak it for my bike.

So I take it that if a person has a SEPST and then go to a TTS then it does the same thing upon install of the TTS?

Terry, not used the SEPST but imagine it works similar to older SERT now TTS.  The tuning does not start from the oem map from the factory.  You will notice that dozens of 'base' maps are included with the software.  You choose the closest one, load it and begin tuning from that.

For those reading this thread and assuming the answer for North Star's particular situation is true in all cases, please do some more research and don't just stop with this thread.  As is the case on many subjects, the answer depends on some facts that have not been made clear.  Just as you can no longer assume all Harley electrical systems are the same, you can't assume all TTS files are the same.  Technology marches on, even in the world of Harley.

I'm not the expert, but I do know that TTS made a change to their software about two years ago that "locks" the ECM to prevent other tuning systems from overwriting the TTS files.  This has been discussed on several threads over the past year or so.  If you have that system using .MT8 files, then my understanding is you will indeed have to reinstall the original calibration with the TTS system first before you will be able to use a SEPST, PV, or other tuning system.  Look for some of the posts by Steve Cole explaining the changes that were made.

Thanks Jerry. Either way, I have the TTS device and stock map saved, so if he needs to load the base map, it just means I'll have to drive over there and give him my device and laptop.

The question should be this:  can you look and see what software version of TTS was used to install the tune into the bike?  If it was v157 or back, the ECM is NOT locked out from other devices.  Starting with v1.60, the ECM is locked out from any intrusions and the TTS will need to be used to shoot the original MTE file back into the bike before ANY other tuner can be used.

Who did the original TTS tune?  Bring the TTS dongle and also a copy of the MTE file with you.  If it was you that did the tune, or simply looked at the 'tune' at a later date, bring the laptop used, if possible.  If you looked OR did the tune itself, you can simply highlight the Mastertune Icon... on the laptop, and it will light up and tell you what version it is.  The new '2' suite will NOT give up what version is used by doing this, one will need to go open the program and then see. (I am NOT saying YOU have TTS2, but just spreading info for the guys that do have the new stuff.).

As a side note?  Would it be possible to find a different tuner?  IMHO... the SEPST is truly a step backwards in tuning.

Doc?  Will SEPST shuffle the ECM back into place IF it was a TTS locked tune?

Well the TTS may be the greatest thing since sliced bread but no tuner in this area of several million people use it, so it's useless to me if I want a custom map done. Not sure why...all I just know is that's just how it is.

It served it's purpose originally- I somehow managed to upload the map that Steve provided me when I first bought it. Too bad it will soon be a $500 paperweight.

I don't know what version it is, and since I don't work with computer programs I don't find it user friendly.... I'm looking at it now and managed to find where the maps are, but I have no idea where to find the original map that I know I saved.

Luckily my tuner can muddle through it, and I'm sure he'll find the map if he needs to restore it. Last time I brought it to him, he became re-familiarized with the program, as I guess the interface is at least like the old SERT.

Thanks for all the info. I guess the answer is he should be able to load a new map using the SEPST, but if the TTS map has restricted this, I'll bring him the TTS and laptop to flash in the OEM map.

The MTE file you saved can be found on your computer that you saved it on (or flash drive or cd or where ever you saved it)
Just go to the Start menu at the bottom of your desktop (windows, I presume?) and type in the search box:   *.MTE    and you will find all the mte files on your computer.
There are help files within TTS that will help you get the OEM file back into your bike. Takes a little reading,  but, no big deal.

Hope this helps.

Ok that was easy thanks to Hogmike. I thought it was saved to the TTS database.

It's not readable because I don't know which program to use to open it, but I suppose that's irrelevant- I guess it's only there to be downloaded directly onto the bike using the TTS?
