Longride windshield quality?
« on: May 13, 2013, 06:48:35 AM »

Has anyone tried one of the full size road king shields from www.longrideshields.com to replace the stock mailbox slot shield on the 2013 SERK? I am looking at buying a used shield off of E-Bay in order to aquire the proper hardware and brackets and then replace the plastic with a longride. I priced buying all of the metal brackets and hardware individually from Harley and it came out to over 250.00 :o Before I do I would like to find some un-biased opinions on the ride quality with the longride plastic. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure about those shields. I went with a standard "RoadKing" shield.  You can find plenty of them on eBay. Some good, some not so good. Keep vigilant and you'll get a good deal.

Looks like longrideshields.com only offers windshields, not fairings. Bummer. I'm looking for a complementary and functional replacement as well.

I called LRS yesterday to inquire about a replacement for the WindSplitter, which for me is completely useless (6'2") I was told they do not have a replacement for the windsplitter and that I'll need to purchase a stock RK shield that can then be swapped for a LRS shield if needed. I did verify through the dealer that the windspltter and stock shield mounts are the same

I picked up a 20 inch standard Road King windshield on eBay that is in excellent condition. I am gonna ride with it for a little while to determine which height LRS tinted shield I want.

I kept the windshield from my last Roadking. It fits the new 2013 and does a fine job.

Well I put the standard shield that I bought of of E-Bay on the bike and man what a difference. It is so much of a more pleasant and much quieter ride!!!! I do miss the tint so I have a 20 inch medium tint longride shield ordered. When it comes in and I get the plastic swapped over I will give ya'll a report on it.

I also purchased a stock RK shield off eBay and agree - HUGE improvement. Also agree about the tint and am considering a LRS. Please share your impressions once you've got a few miles on it.

Well I have a few hundred miles now riding with the ne long ride shiel and I absolutely love it. I cannot find anything at all negative to say about it. It offers even more protection than a regular road king shield because it is wider across the top.

I have one on my ultra.  I went 2 inches taller based on the instructions on their site.  I love it. No issues and would recommend.

when i was in the windshield purchasing mode i looked everywhere to ensure i was getting the right deal. All I can say make sure its the right size, do your measuring and research. I am moving up and searching for a fairing now, but good luck and once you get your windshield on that fits, you will be able to smile more.

I've been riding with a stock RK shield - Huge improvement over the Windsplitter.  Just ordered a LRS in medium tint, can't wait to see the difference.
