I rode my 2nd new cvo road king home today
« on: May 22, 2013, 11:19:21 PM »

I am the guy who bought a road king last week only to have It break down due to a throttle problem and a blown trans in the first 75 miles.so Picked up my new bike today and headed home I got caught in a traffic jam on the way home.It got so hot that it went into heat management pinged like crazy and cut off four times It got so hot It would not crank over until I let it cool down on the side of the road, again.only made it twenty miles this time. Also came with a free scratch in the tank and only one speaker working on I pod.I pod turned out to be just a bad connect at saddle bag.Still not impressive prep work.I called the dealer and the service advisor said this was normal I. Should purchase a parade fan and avoid traffic.I sure am starting to miss my street glide.I ordered a wards fan tonight.Wil this help cure my overheating?

Your experiences so far would be unacceptable in my book. "Avoid traffic" can't believe that one! Not sire what I would do if I were in your shoes. Maybe return the bike and test drive a BMW 1600.

Just where are you located and how hot has it been there?

I have both a 12 and a 13 CVO.  I have had them go into parade mode in 85 plus weather in traffic.  I have not had either shut down.  The 12 after a tune and head pipe change now does better, and takes about 90 degree weather in stop and go to go into parade mode at a light.

I doubt my 13 King will.  I have built the motor and have a very good tune in it, quite a bit richer than the EPA tune, it runs cooler than my 12, and cooler than my wifes street glide.

If your in an area under 90 degrees and its shutting down, HD needs to look at it.

Dave is 100% correct on all his comments. You may want to manually turn your parade mode or I think its ETMS not sure on the initials OFF. It shows you in the manual how to do this. Turn Bike on not start and roll your throttle forward until the light on your gauge turns to orange/red and its off. Pretty sure thats how you do it but if not I know 100 guys on here know better and will explain. I'm just to lazy to get up right now and go get my manual. Get the cat out of the head pipe, tune it correctly and cool that bad boy down. Good luck Slinger, dont let it get to you my brother, thats an incredible Bike.

thanks for the support. It was ninety three out and quite a back up.Add to this the bike is tight and not broken in,I guess it was a perfect storm so to speak.Iwas just totally freaked out after the first bike broke it's tranny. On top of it all they told me that all my accessories had been switched and when I got there none had oh well no big deal.I just can't wait for the storm to end to try this beauty out.Ihave a full sac head pipe and thundermax waiting to go on.this combined with the new fan should squelch the baltimore heat.

The fullsac head pipe is a great choice.  I have one on my King, and my wifes street glide.  I like it better than the Fuel Moto head pipe I have on my Skunk.

If you do not have the thundermax yet, you might really want to look hard at the TTS and a Map from steve at fullsac.

Dave is right Slinger. Fullsac is a great choice, I have not had good experiences in the past with Thundermax nor have anyone I have come across. TTS and a solid tune or even the SERT is the way to go imo. I use the SERT and Vance and Hines head pipe but Fullsac and TTS are as good or better depending on bike and map.

Yes the Wards fans will help, got mine last week in CVO gray.  Haven't gone into management mode since and it has been in the 90's here in south Florida.  You won't regret installing them.
