Looking for "Dark Tint" taller winscreen
« on: October 02, 2006, 12:14:37 PM »

When I got my '06 CUSE, I changed out the shorty windscreen for one that is about 10" tall and "smoke".  I really like the look of the original shorty dark tint windscreen, but it didn't have enough wind protection, so I went with the taller one that is "smoke".  The "smoke" is barely darker that clear.  I would like to know if anyone has found a taller windscreen that is as dark as the original windscreen that came with the bike.  Appreciate your help in finding one [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Check out this seller on eBay - American - Thunder. I purchased the 8 inch smoke from them and have been very happy with it. Price is right too. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Others have used the Clearview shields w/the Euro lip and have had success w/them. You can check out this thread (Clearview Shields...Euro lip windshields.........) for details and contact information.

Firedood, thanks for the info.  I'll check out these two sites and hopefully find what I'm looking for.  Thanks again [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

All companies I talked to do not make a taller "dark" tint (i.e. can't see thru it) - it's a safety issue. I made a 10" one from a piece of lexan. Worked fine but I found I was having trouble seeing potholes etc @ low speeds. Finally changed it out for a Clearview smoked - works much better. I've got the 10" one for sale if you're interested.

Thanks for the offer, but actually I ordered a new shield, 9.5" with a little darker tint than what I had.  We'll see if it makes a difference. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Purchased mine thru Clearview and they had two tint versions in addition to a clear one.  I went with the lighter one since I was going higher than the stock version.  My choice in height was "just right", as if it were any higher, it would have bothered me at night.  The darker one on a higher version would not have worked at all and would agree about the safety issue.  The "wind curve (kicker)" works great.

Fired00d, I ended up ordering from Clearview.  They said it would take a couple of weeks.  Once I get it, I'll post a picture and my comments on the tint vs the HD windscreen I have. (9.5" windscreen)

I got mine from J&P Cycles.  It's a National Cycle windshield.  You can get 3 different heights.  I believe the dark tinted one I got is called "solar".  -Steve

A friend uses these, which are VERY cheap, but seem good, and he tells me the guy is very helpful:

No experience myself though.

While I know many here are big fans of Clearview (and sounds like a great product), I do have 3 of the fastaire windshields. I can attest to their quality. Better yet is their service, but not to be outdone is the price ( avg.$ 27-37)! If looking for high quality bargain, this is it!!! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
