Stock thickness of packing CVO cans?
« on: May 24, 2013, 08:04:45 PM »

Hi there

Can someone please tell me (someone who has done the Fullsac conversion) what thickness (1/4" or 1/2") the stock packing/insulation material is the CVO mufflers?

And did anyone doing the conversion have mufflers with a perforated screen with a layer thin fibreglass around the screen and then packing around that OR just packing around the baffle?

Cheers

I have cored a few CVO mufflers now and I have seen two kind of baffles. One is the wrapped perforated baffle with a 1/4'' blanket wrapped around it. The other baffle has two tubes flattened out, over lapping, and welded together....this baffle has the screen with a thin layer of fiberglass wrapped around the screen.

Hi there

I'm in the land down under and have just removed my left baffle and mine has the two tubes flattened out, overlapping and welded together and has the screen with a thin layer of fibreglass wrapped around the screen and then 1/4" "softer" packing wrapped around it and stapled at either end of the screen.

What I'm trying to establish is: should I re-use the screen and packing as it was removed with my new 2.00" cores OR seeing I've also purchased perforated screens from Fullsac; use the new screens with just a 1/4" or 1/2" (hence my original question) wrap of new packing? Not sure what impact on sound and performance, if any, either will have as this is my first re-core..

I have the older version 4" mufflers with the pipes that are flattened out together and I reused the packing and the stock screen as they were on my CVO cans with my Fullsac 2.25 baffles. I am really happy with the sound of my exhaust.
