110 Dyno #'s
« on: June 05, 2013, 10:02:17 AM »

I posted a while back my dyno #'s after having header, pipes, dyno and a tune done to my bike. It seemed almost every reply was the person tuning didn't know what he was doing. Going back to dealer they kind of looked at me like ok so you heard this on the internet so it must be true. I'm tired of dealing with them. My bike dynoed at 91.31 and 104.64 which seems low for what was done. V&H X-pipe and 4 1/2" high outputs. Tuner was the orange SERT or SERST not sure. Does anyone have this setup that would post their dyno results so I can go back to the stealer with this? Also what are the stock dyno #'s for a stock 2013 SERK? It seemed I had more power prior to spending $2,500. Attached is my dyno sheet after tune.

You should look up good tuners in your area and have them put it on their dyno.  Comparing someone else's dyno numbers and arguing over a few horsepower won't get you anywhere with the dealer.  You're best to have someone else tune it and go back to the dealer with the baseline (dealer tune) compared to the new tune and argue that you shouldn't have to pay for their crappy tune.

If we had a good tuner around this area I would love to do that. As far as I know there are none. The only other dyno that I know of is a dealer 90 miles away and is owned by the same person that owns the dealer I went to. I live in South Louisiana

My 2011 with a Decatted head pipe and hi outputs with a PowerCommander tuner dynoed at 89 HP and 108 TQ. Just keep in mind that the stock 255 cam is a torque cam not a horsepower cam.

I think you're good. DO NOT be fooled by everyone's dyno number. ALL DYNOS ARE NOT THE SAME!

Looking only at your graph above it looks like the tuner left you bike a little to the lean side below 5000 RPM. They could richen it up and you MAY gain a few more but that's it. Just ran a 2012 CVO 110 Road Glide with slip-ons and tune, 93 hp, 113 torque so your numbers are not all that far off. Ride the bike and enjoy it or talk with the dealer if you like.

Dynojet list these in your state.  Maybe some close to you work checking out?

Your attached file is so small that I can't make it out clearly, but it LOOKS like the pull was done in 4th gear.  The pull, in 5th gear would be more in line with what we normally see from other similar set ups.

If it's a 4th gear pull, that's your problem right there, Vern...

Looks to me also that it says a fourth gear pull. If that's the case and the tuner is running that gear, what else is he not doing correctly??

I think we covered all the obvious errors by the guy doing the tune in a different thread.  Look for that thread and read some of the comments he made to Kuminatcha; that will be all you need to see to determine the capabilities of this particular dealership "tuner".

If this is one of those street tuners on there you may want to take it back to the dealer and have them unlock the ECM and put the oem calibration back in it before you try to tune it with something else.

We can see a lot more in this post as you didn't post your chart/#s before.
You still haven't said if you have a street tuner or super tuner?(both modules are orange)

The street tuner is so limited that it is worthless to me imo, as it only allows AFR adjustment. There are a lot of other tuners out there that do much more for less. (I have a V&H FuelPak off of my '09 SERG that will work fine for you, it did for me, until I exceeded its capabilities, by doing a bunch of motor mods~PM if interested, or if you have any questions)

As others have said here, you at least want to richen up the AFR in the lower rpms. That should pick up your tq some at lower rpms

As Steve (the resident guru) posted here your #s are not that far off, especially given the different day / different dyno / 4th gear run, variances

I can ride a bike, never could ride a dyno chart

According to the other thread I mentioned, he has the SEPST, not the Street Tuner.  So at least they sold him the right one.  Unfortunately the device is just one small part of the equation, and the most important part (the guy doing the tuning) is severely lacking in this case.  It's a shame that this sort of thing happens all the time, with unqualified dealership personnel trying to make money pretending to know how to tune.  Anyone can be trained, including some monkeys, to just run the dyno.  Not everyone can be trained to be a highly competent tuner however.

One other thing I just noticed is I had LEDs installed at Thunder Beach and noticed that they put a strip in my horn cover. It is getting so hot that the bulbs are melting and dropping on my primary cover. Not knowing much about this is just totally frustrating. Thanks for all the help.
