I am really not trying to sell you guys on anything.  Just trying to relate my experience after 22 years of riding.

They DO NOT cancel all hearing.  They work like any other earplug.  They cancel a certain number of dbs.  I believe it is 80, which makes them equivalent to a good set of earplugs.  And if you guys don't wear earplugs on long rides, good luck with your hearing in 10 years.

I will now keep my comments about them to myself.

I apologize if my response came off snarky, dicky, etc...I didn't mean for it to, but the

"Anything over 45 minutes of continuous riding can result in permanent hearing loss.  That is why earplugs are highly recommended."

Sounded just like the guy I bought my custom plugs from at a bike show and I think was one of the facts he had on his pamphlet. I like mine for sleeping and shooting(no speakers, just plugs). I do think they take away a lot of environmental, but that's my opinion. So I only figured with that much outside gone and music coming in, one would be riding deaf to their surroundings. That's why I suggested a less of a custom fit stereo bud, but that would fill the canal with a thin wind barrier rather than a full-on plug.

I wasn't insinuating that you were the salesman and again I'm sorry it came off that way. Please don't keep your comments or opinions to yourself. They make others think, which makes this site great. And if everyone stopped posting their thoughts or experiences we'd have nothing to read and Naitram would have a lot of unnecessary computer equipment.

Does anybody here know of any ear buds that have really good audio, are comfortable (with/without a helmet) and don't cost an arm/leg???

Not sure how the Sennheiser are with a helmet over ears. Maybe I'll give it a try sometime this week. Whichever way you go, I'd look for Kevlar wrapped cables. Especially if you're going to be pulling a helmet over them. All the common rubber jacketed earbud cables stretch and the wires inside don't so that usually becomes the failure point.

I've tried a couple different m/c specific molded ones and lots of non-m/c specific ones. Advantage to m/c specific ones is they take in to account most people will be wearing a helmet, so they are lower profile. But if you don't wear your helmet when doing the mold, they're still not quite right. Tried a new pair on a week long ride and had to stop wearing them after a few days because they hurt too damn bad to put in.

Some helmets have smaller ear pockets, which changes how they fit as well.

THere are also lots of options for bluetooth adapters that you plug headphones in to so you can go wireless to your GPS (or HD bluetooth if equiped).

No offense taken.  And the benefit is that you can really turn the music down low, while still hearing it very well, because of the reduced noise levels.

The fact about permanent hearing loss is all over, so I would assume it is at least partially true.

J & M now sells a lower cord that includes a plug-in for earbuds.  That way they can be used with all the functions of the H-D audio (intercom, CB, music) and the Zumo.
