Electrical Issue
« on: June 28, 2013, 07:54:15 AM »

Good morning all!

Finally installed the Jagg Lowmount Fan-assisted Oil Cooler Kit last weekend and I had to move the Stator connector back to accommodate the fan.

Noticed today on the ride in on the interstate the voltage meter was fluctuating between 12 and 14 volts. Also, earlier in the week I had no tach, speedo and icon lite on speedo, turned the bike off everything was ok.

I did check the 1 yo HD battery and put it on a charge, tested ok.

Just wondering where to start, I will disconnect clean, and apply dielectric grease to the stator connector since it was wet with oil from removing the oil filter.

Thanks and ride safe!

If you just touched, moved or altered something that might account for a problem then started having a problem trust the coincidence.  Start at that stator plug.  Make it clean and secure and see if that solves it.

Hey all,

Oil soaked stator connector, cleaned, volt gauge reads 13 to 13.5 volts (hopefully didnt short regulator). Not pegged at 14volts as usual and no more voltage fluctuation as before.

Need to do more charging system checks.

I noticed on the stator connector housing  72082-02 there were no gasket as in some connectors (deutch). Is there supposed to be a gasket to prevent fluid infiltration?

With the Jagg fan/cooler there is a mount the connects to the regulator that I need to check for a good ground connection.

Cheers!

Only getting 14.15 amps at the battery @ 2K rpm, when I turn on the spots, 13.95 volts.

Regulator ground checks ok, wonder if I shorted the regulator with the 2 wire connector soaked with oil.  Have to wait until after the 4th to do more checks.

Any upgrades to our stock chrome regulator? Oh I am running a 45amp rotor.

Cheers!
