Woke up early yesterday morning.  Earlier than the dog usually has to get up for it's 6:15 pee.  Thought mega mutt would be pissed off about getting up an hour earlier than normal but she didn't seem to be.  Instead she looked at me, yawned, and as clearly as a dog can speak anything said "iyon butt."  Since dogs can't say R sounds I knew she meant iron butt.  Having nothing else to do was on the bike 20 minutes later with the intention of once and for all checking the effectiveness of octane booster.  Put a drop in the aux port on the new radio and was going to see just how far away from town I could be and still get the local stations.

Went from home in Joplin in SW Missouri and got as far as Dodge City, Kansas for a quick breakfast.  Still got the local stations.  Headed north and listened again in Hodredge, Nebraska.  Radio still played.  This octane booster is the chit after all.  Grand Island, Lincoln, Nebraska City...  radio still worked.  After that I turned it off for good.  Had headed south for home anyway.

Got back about 10:45 last night.  Had to be around 1000 miles for the day.  Turns out putting a drop of octane booster in the radio aux port will migrate out the back of the radio, down the main harness, forward along the neck and eventually kill your speedo sensor though.  No cruise control the last couple of fuel stops.  Dammit.

Weather was outstanding in the upper Midwest and Plains yesterday.  Autumnal.  Sweatshirt weather in July nearly all day at a time would normally be baking.  Nearly none of the day on the super slabs and didn't see a police all day long.

Somewhere out in the boonies outside Nebraska City rolled past a farmhouse doing a yard sale.  Out of the corner of my eye saw a Bushtec trailer pushed up to the road with a for sale sign on it.  Turned around and ten minutes later was pulling this thing away.  The hitch has, fortunately, been stuck in the Road Glide and I'd generally forgot it was there.  It got used today.

Trailer has a couple of small scuffs, the color works with my bikes, the body and interior are in great shape.  1999 model Quantum whose story is that it went three trips behind a Goldwing since it was bought new.  Can't know of course but tires and carpet condition don't argue with the story.  For the price they were willing to selling it for just couldn't roll away without it.  So guess I'm not borrowing the trailer that's local to me anymore....

Outstanding! Trailer looks like a near-perfect color match to the RG. That was meant to happen!  :bananarock: :2vrolijk_21:

What kinda "octane booster" was that? My FM reception SUXX.  :-\

Thanks guys.  It was a wonderful day.  Just a beautiful day in the saddle.  The last couple of years have been busy enough there haven't been any vacation trips so no long rides.  A few hundred miles on the occasional weekend has been it.  So it was good to really stretch it out again; if even for a day.  Got up this morning and felt none the worse for the decent day's ride.  So guess I'm not too beat up for the saddle yet after all.

The trailer was an exceptional score.  Super nice older couple that farmed sunflowers, wheat, corn and beans.  A big spread.  Would've loved to have chatted longer but my butt was in a rhythm.  The old gentleman understood completely.  For him "going to the store" is a 50 mile round trip and he still uses his Wing for that several times a week when he's not hauling a load.  So he understood.

They were both a little gobsmacked that some guy just happened to be rolling by on a bike with a Bushtec hitch in a similar color and saw their rig.  Had apparently had it shoved out by the road for quite awhile but weren't trying too hard beyond that.  Even told the gent he should be asking more but he'd not hear of it.  "Price is the price, wouldn't be fair not to take after I showed it" was all he'd say.  But I did come away with their phone number and a standing offer to stop in for some local home brew when riding that way again.  So it's all good.

The Quantum does look a little "Wingy" but I don't care.  Compared to the old Roadstar this thing is cavernous inside.  Only intend to do two things to it.  Actually one thing because did one this morning.  Added a power outlet in the back so can plug in a phone or other charger.  The legs are already there for an interior light.  Trailer didn't have the light so just grabbed the stubs and mounted the plug.  Other thing is to order a tongue stand.  That's it.  Red trailer that will go with both bikes.  Sweet....

Nuts.  Just yanked the speedo sensor.  Thought I had a couple of spares.  They were both the newer shorter sensor.  Grrr......   Good thing the trailer was cheap.  Now have to buy a sensor tomorrow.  Actually probably won't.  Local dealer not likely to stock the old sensor.  Double grrrr.....

You're still way up! Great day of riding, no speeding tickets (not that you would ;)), incredible find on the trailer, you happened to be riding a bike with a hitch! All well worth the price of a speedo sensor.

Even better Mark.  I looked in the parts cabinet and a couple of boxes where spare spares are kept; everyplace I could think.  Except the left saddlebag.  Where the onboard tools and spares are.  D'uh.

Had one there.  Already in and working.  Just walked back to the desk after having it running on the lift.  Speedo comes up like it knows where's going now.  Honestly I could live without the speedometer.  I might run out of gas without the odometer though.  The self cancelling turn signals wouldn't bother me if they stayed gone.  But damn it'd suck losing the cruise control permanently.  I'm such a wuss...  :huepfenlol2: :drink:

Now need to keep an eye on eBay to replenish the spare.

Done good both on the ride and the Bushtec find, Don.  One heck of a day for ya.  Love the Bushtec trailers.  Owned a couple over the years and they are made about 30 miles up the road from the house.  John and his family are great folks and make one heck of a product.  They don't sit on their laural either.  Interesting story on how he purchased Bushtec and moved it to East Tennessee....
Glad you found the spare sensor and back up and running.  I can ride without cruise control but shore do make the long rides easier... :2vrolijk_21:

Finished taking a much closer look at the trailer last night.  All the lines and rest of the suspension appear in great shape.  Tires look great with no checking or cracking.  Few small scuffs in the paint but the interior is like new.  I'm a happy camper.  May be the best $750 I've spent in a long time.  Need rides like that more often :2vrolijk_21: .
