Yup... lotsa miles between the 1st & 1k. So many great people here. Wonderful place to discover new friends who have endless ideas on how to spend $$ on stuff for my CVO that I never realized I needed so badly.

I just purchased a K&N filter the same size as the stock H-D paper element and used it inside the stock air box.

Hi all,

I'm confused if the latest 29121-07 is the same part because it is shown in the Harley catalog as being available starting August 2007, and these posts appear to be from 2006.

I have a FLHTCUSE3 on order and the dealer has a discount and some free service if I spend $1000 (not as hard as I would have thought) so was looking into the Screamin' Eagle® Stage I Kit. The manual states it requires 29121-07 and the dealer did not even have a picture but thought it would be a very generic air filter cover without a notch. It listed for $49 or $69, so if it's a cover I would expect it to look much worse than the one that comes with the bike. I would not mind more performance, but don't want some lame cover to mess up the look of my bike.

Instead he sold me some "just out" Screamin' Eagle Street Performance mufflers for the FLHTCUSE that are supposed to be a little better performance and deeper sounding than the stock mufflers without being obnoxiously loud. I thought the FLHTCUSE3 already came with a Screamin' Eagle high performance exhaust. This muffler is not supposed to require a race tuner/modification because the back pressure is still "within the tolerance range" for the bike.

Are these mufflers an upgrade to what the bike will come with, or did I get taken by the dealer? Would a Stage 1 kit have been a better option? Does 29121-07 replace the outside air cleaner cover (and does it look OK)?

Sorry about so many questions, it's my first post here and I don't even have my bike yet (3 1/2 week and counting from expected delivery).

Thanks!

Go with a Zippers air cleaner - and don't forget when rolling your own to go with the "chrome" backplate - doesn't cost much.

The Roll your own kit will work.  If you get the thick gasket included in the post, the stock A/C cover will work fine.  The book says it won't work, but it will.  If I remember, the part number for the backplate is the chrome one.  Do NOT buy the HD "kit"...it is a rip-off, with a POS filter included.  You will save money, and have better parts with grc's Roll Your Own thread. :2vrolijk_21:

The CVO bike does not come with the SE mufflers on the bike.  The one's the dealer is selling you are street legal (EPA) mufflers.  I've heard these, and they sound pretty decent, though a bit to quiet for me.  If you like a quiet pipe, but one that stil has a little better tone than stock, they are not a bad choice.

Can I replace the air filter with a "Roll Your Own" one or the Screamin Eagle Stage I kit without the SERT? Since these engines (heaters) run very lean stock I would imagine enhancing the air intake would make them run leaner still. Or am I mistaken?

If this all needs to go on the bike at the same time then how do I drive my bike to the dealer after modifying my air filter to get the SERT set up correctly? Or should I expect the dealer will take the parts listed here, put it together, add the SERT and then set it up for my bike? I'm probably overthinking this...    :nixweiss:

Ans to your 1st question: No you're not mistaken.

Ans to your 2nd question: Yes you're correct. Or you can do it yourself and load the SERT map in that's closest yourself too. This will allow you to break it in for 1K miles. Then go get it Dyno Tuned. Before you get it tuned, make sure you've made all the changes you want so you don't have to get it retuned. Whether they do it or you do it, You'll want to get it custom tuned after break-in.
