Flush/fill service interval every ?? miles?

20k?

Won't matter because we won't be able to do it.  Will have to hook it up to Digital Technician to signal the water pump to move the fluid for a complete flush.   (oh gawd I so hope that BS doesn't end up being right.....)

You & me both.

Any guesses on what the cost will be for the new "Harley Twin Cooling Fluid"? North of $10 per pint?

Or any bets on how long it will take the Moco to develop a high performance "Screamin' Eagle Twin Cooling Fluid"? This SE fluid will be their response to the complaints about leaks, overheating, and that unexpected foot steam bath when the radiator cap blows at a stop light or during parade duty.

Or how some intrepid rider who is more than handy with a wrench (hint: probably you) will figure out that the regular Twin Cooling Fluid is generic Walmart type brand anti-freeze & the Screamin' Eagle version is Prestone?  My head hurts a little now...

i know your previous post was pretty much tongue in cheek, but i did do some checking, the hd antifreeze is damned expensive anyways.  22.95 for a gallon.

it does say for use in vrods and twin cooled engines, so same as they've been using for years.

No doubt it will be like the big 3's diesel engines, a new type of "special" coolant every other year required.

Just watched the MY tech bulletin (yeah Shockwave).  The pressure cap is on a neck that bends back outside the ex-glove box door for service.  So it is serviceable as it sets on the bike.  I surprised by the coolant volume spec.  Unless either I mis-heard or the tech bulletin misstated the entire volume is only a bit over a quart.

I wonder how long it would take for a quart of coolant to drip out of a parked bike at ambient temperature easily verifiable by the whyinthepluperfecthellisthedamnairgaugestillona2016? ever present & most useless useful inner fairing atmosphere gauge?

One would expect at operating temperatures it would leak faster?  At higher than normal temps - boiling - it could be like a sauna.  Like a 2016 spa on wheels.

Whilst wondering....How soon will it be before somebody uses plain water instead of coolant & freeze cracks their heads when the bike sits in below freezing temperatures?

Haven't seen a spec yet for what pressure rating the pressure cap is good for.  Without knowing how many pounds of pressure the system is held at we can't know boiling point.  But, yeah, the second or third hard winter of stored bikes (after they've had time to need to be serviced a few times and get refilled with more water and less anti-freeze) might be interesting.

More service opportunities, bigger service bill for some.

Saw your post on the RG fairing redesign guess somewhere else - so many 2014 threads I get them mixed up.  Had an opportunity to ride a RG a few times over the last couple of years.  Handles well, like it a lot.  If they do the fairing redesign the way you suggest with the screen in the middle (logical placement), I will be looking at the RG more seriously than the Ultra.  Depends on how many of the "I bought a 2014 CVO Limited & It Sucks Because ________" threads are posted here, and how quickly those issues get resolved.

Anyway, Neal is likely to have a lot more hits on this forum for 2013-14, if one reflects back on the less than fun times in 2007 when the 110 was introduced before it was ready. Hoping not a redo of that, seriously, for those who guinea pig themselves for the 2014 wet heads.

I saw the post regarding the Rushmore Project yesterday on Facebook from someone who didn't like the idea of a phone being integrated w/the Infotainment & then proceeded to their site to see it directly.  Lots of grammatical errors in the text that was surprising for a company who's been in business for a 110 years & it's obvious they rushed it.  I stopped at a dealer & the guy I spoke to was generally knowledgeable & said that their owner or GM was at the launch meeting in Colorado still so he was a tad light on all the intimate details as he was unpacking brochures.  He did say that he used to be w/Toyota & reminded me of the Camry & how in one single production year, they addressed every single issue there was w/the vehicle & corrected it where it went on to become the #1 car sold in the US.  That's supposedly what H-D is hoping to emulate w/this project as they were in communications w/Toyota allegedly.  I like what their intentions are about as it was about time to look like they were paying attention.  We'll see & be careful w/marketing as sometimes no one else in the company has a clue what they're up to.

Here's my theory about how the Twin Cooling feature will make the rider feel more comfortable...

Water is 3600 times as dense as air at sea level, and can absorb much more heat much more quickly than can air. So, the liquid coolant can remove a lot of heat from the heads very quickly, in relation to how much heat air can remove in the same amount of time.

OK... but that absorbed heat has to go somewhere... and on the twin-cooled bikes it goes out the vent on the outside of the fairing lowers... right into the AIR surrounding the rider's legs!

The hot coolant goes from the engine through the LEFT fairing radiator first, then over to the RIGHT radiator. This means that the LEFT radiator will radiate MORE heat than will the RIGHT radiator, since it receives hotter coolant directly from the engine.

This left-to-right coolant flow will serve to EQUALIZE THE ROASTING of the rider's legs! It's BRILLIANT! Now, instead of only feeling the heat from the exhaust on their RIGHT leg, the rider will now also feel the heat from the LEFT - and hotter - radiator on their LEFT leg.

My theory is that with this new Equalized Roasting feature, the rider will PERCEIVE themselves to be more comfortable... because they will now feel the heat on BOTH legs, and neither leg will feel noticeably warmer in relation to the other leg.

It's psychological... rather like putting a frog in a pot of water, then heating the water until it boils. The frog won't jump out because it doesn't notice the gradual rise in water temperature surrounding it. But, if you throw a frog into already-boiling water, it will jump out immediately, because it quickly senses the significant temperature differential and takes quick action to save itself. Or something...

Anyway, that's my theory... Equalized Roasting!
