Ignition lock removal
« on: August 18, 2013, 10:42:00 AM »

Can anyone help with the removal of the ignition lock. Tightened the threaded nut too tight and broke the plastic on the housing. Hopefully one of you have replaced it and can help describe the procedure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a 2010 cvo ultra . thank you

I just replaced my switch for that exact reason. But my bike is a 2005.

Don't know the procedure for the new ones.
But, on mine you can't get to the nut without removing the key -lock part.

How did you break the switch?

When I did replace mine though I had a very difficult time getting the lock out because the nut had rotated up and limited switch movement.

Where in Jersey? I'm just off exit 98-100.

Didn't break the switch . I broke the actual lock.  I took off the fairing cap to add the aux light harness that lets you keep the aux lights on with high beams on. While putting back the switch  I tightened the nut to tight. What a mess I created. Lol.
Was hoping to find someone who did it already. I have the manual but still confusing. Says you need a special tool to pull it up but usually there is away around their special tools. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

Exit 123.  Thanks for trying to help

Thanks ,but it's not the switch that's the problem. It's the actually lock that broke witch the switch mounts to.

The newer ingnition switch seems a lot cheaper than the one on my 04. The new ones seem to break. A whole lot easier.   A friend of our broke his in sturgis and now is waiting fr a replacement.  These are hollow junk to me.  :nixweiss:

When I changed mine out I got a new connecter for the harness end and just cut the wire on the old switch. Effectively making  a jumper that I can now reach under the inner lower cover.

In that video, see the towel on the gas tank?

That is not what the HD tech did when he removed my key switch to replace the lower panel.

Cost the dealer a new CVO gas tank.

I know it doesn't help now, but you didn't need to remove the fairing cap for that cable installation.  I've done 2 now, the first I loosened the right side cap, the 2nc, I just reached in and pulled some slack on the cable from the outer fairing side.
