Mastertune Question re: initial ECM data
« on: August 18, 2013, 08:03:10 PM »

Ok, I downloaded the initial stock ECM data and did my VTunes.  I am considering getting a cam installed in the next week or so.  Due to warranty issues, I'll be going with a SE drop in cam.  Now, I understand that if I am traveling, I can run into trouble with the Mastertune (and the ESP).  Here's my question...if I flash the ECM back to stock, and have the Dealership flash a stage II download (waste of money, but that is what the ESP expects), can I then download the Stage II ECM for later retrieval if necessary?

First thing you need to understand any changes to the bike can and does void ESP warrenty. I would check with the ESP provider first to see what they really cover today. HD has dropped coverage for anything that is NOT an OEM stock part these days. Different dealerships can and do try to help you but HD started cracking down last year.

That said if you have your stock file and replace it the ECM will look just as it did prior to installing the TTS product. If you do decide to have a HD download done after you returned it to stock, you can save that just as you did the stock calibration and restore it at a later date if you like

Thanks Steve, exactly what I needed to know.  The cam I am talking about is in the ESP book as allowed as it's a street legal OEM part.  As I would be doing this within 60 days of purchase, it automatically piggybacks on the 2 year OEM warranty and the ESP.

Does the ESP book claim that since it is a street legal part it covers it? If so, then they would also need to cover ANY street legal part which would be great to know.

I can't answer that.  The guy I spoke with looked up the specific cam and said it was listed as street legal, so was covered.
