2013 CVO Ultra trade in value?
« on: August 21, 2013, 12:43:09 PM »

Was at dealer looking at 2014 bikes and asked salesmsn what he thought trade in value of my 2013 Ultra would be towards a 2014 Ultra. He told me I would get killed on trade because no one will want the 13s with all the improvements to the 14s.Sounded like dealer isnt interessted in trades on 13 Cvo ultras.Any thoughts on how this will affect the values on our 13s.Will be speaking with sales manager on friday.

He's setting you up for low ball figure on your 13.  IMHO.

With all do respect, he may be correct! When the 09 came out the 08's took a hit because of all the changes!
I think there are enough changes to the 14's that it may be the same as it was back then.

He's setting you up so he can steal your trade.  If the sales manager is typical of the breed, he will likely do the same thing.  Never forget, these people aren't your friend and they aren't being paid to get you the best deal.

For every person out there who would prefer to get the 2014, I'll bet there will be at least one and possibly several who would rather stick with the familiar versus the completely untested new stuff.  You might want to think about that yourself; do you really want to be an uncompensated beta tester for all the changes Harley made for 2014?

Then again with so many not liking what they see in the 14's, your trade-in may just be worth more today (to the purest at least) than it was last week.

Right now the dealer's chests are all puffed out like a proud new father of the latest offerings from HD..  I do think that like others that most people want 09 and later bikes.  It could be safe to assume the same about the 14's and later.
I wouldn't want to lose my rear just to have a 14 unless you have so much money it doesn't matter and you have to have the latest/greatest.
Let us know how it works out-good luck.

Back when I had my EVO Fatboy and the Twin Cam came out there was a delay in price dropping. I could get top dollar for my EVO since the TC had some problems at first and most riders didn't trust them. Once the problems were basically solved and owners started to like the TC then the price of the EVOs went down the tubes...

IMHO, and in full agreement with others, ride your '13 for a year or two to see what's not right with the '14s.  As attractive as they look and the specs say, there is a real cost to have to take a bike back to a dealership due to a warranty issue or factory recall.  Time is money.  For the first year, you have made money on this proto-HYPE.   :coolblue:

Wait until next spring, when there are tons of these new '14s sitting unsold on their floor. Then you can name your price for your '13 CUSE trade in.

Or better yet, JUST KEEP IT!

No offense....but these guy's make their $$$$$$ on guys like you that have to be the 1st to have the latest greatest.  Great advice, be patient, and if you just can't and you gotta have it, sell your bike here!  Personally if I were considering making a move, I would buy the Limited for $10,000.00 less and have some fun making it mine, and thats only if I couldn't resist.  Heck, by time your done you will be over $40k after taxes & dealer BS for a stock bike again?

My dealer must not feel this way, they have a used Maroon 2013 SEUC with 750 miles on it and they're asking $40,900 for it!! That's more than I paid for mine new. http://www.bumpusharleymurfreesboro.com/new_vehicle_detail.asp?sid=01010095X8K21K2013J8I29I05JPMQ1720R0&veh=317514&pov=3297851

I've been in the sales game for 30 years now. I love it when somebody asks how much my old stuff is worth.

In a negotiation NEVER show your hand or show weakness!  PERIOD!

When you start the conversation not knowing the values in the game you are a dead man walking.

Like the others, I'd wait awhile until you know the 2014s prove out. I have no doubt they have been working on them and testing them for the past few years, but all the same they were not massed produced. I have a 2012 CVO Ultra and although some of the new items on the 2014s are nice, I like my 2012.
