Giving up two to get one, am I nuts???
« on: August 22, 2013, 12:44:54 PM »

Its happened again, I have fallen in love with the CVO Limited and I want one, catch is I would HAVE TO trade in my 2011 FLHTUSE, and my 2012 FLTRXSE to pull this off. Not sure if I should do it, the 11 is paid for, I owe 19,000 on the 12. For those of you who say keep em and buy another thats not an option, both my Road Glides are great bikes, except for the incessant head shake on the 11. I know, (I know) it is a personal and emotional decision, but I wouldn't mind hearing from others on this site who suffer from the same disease every new model year.

Buy the most beautiful bike (to you) that you can afford. Best advice I ever received.

Get what ever one makes you happy, then stay out of the dealership, safer that way :)

"Two" each his own?   :nixweiss:   :huepfenlol2:   Do what you want.    :coolblue:    8)

I'm biased but you would trade two sharks for a bat?    :huh2:    :vrolijk27:    :zwtf:

What will you do when the upgraded shark arrives?         :huepfenlol2:

Hope this helps.    ;D

I wouldn't buy the '14 until there's a track record of reliability on all the changes (water cooling, infotainment system, etc).  I'd wait until next year and see what the RG looks like.  Also, I'm a batwing rider and plan on my next bike being a shark.  Just rented a RG for a week at Sturgis and really liked it.  Seemed to push thru the air better, especially on the interstate.  JM2C.

Just my .02 ,
In my younger days I would need to get the latest and greatest and was sold on the latest bells and whistles on new bikes/cars/boats etc. Looking back it seemed like I was never satisfied with what I had even though to others they felt what I had was a great thing.
I don't know if it's a sign of ageing/maturity or just not wanting to be a test dummy for some manufacturer but I no longer need the most or the newest thing. I have learned to be happy with what I have. I know some people can focus their interest in one area or they have unlimited income but for me I like several things and like to do more than one thing so I have different hobbies and interest that I spend my limited money around on. I have not become one of those who are "house poor" or "bike poor" or "boat poor" etc. I enjoy my life but I can retire and don't have to work just to afford my toys. To me family is more important than things.
I have learned to separate a want from a need and I try to take care of needs first.

Again just my .02 but I would consider selling the 2011 that is paid for and has the shakes you can't cure and seem dissatisfied with. I would try to pay off the other bike you owe money on, then invest the left over money to help with a down payment in a year or two after the bugs have been worked out of the 2014 new design changes. I know right now you are attracted by all the media hype and want a 2014 but how would you feel if problems arise and you are now owning one bike that is in the shop all the time.....The way the economy is you never make money on a vehicle so look at it this way, what if someone had you take several thousand dollars each year and flush it down the toilet could you afford to do that?
Good luck with your decision.

Like the old saying goes... "good things come to those who wait!"

I for one would NOT rush into buying an untested 2014 with all the changes.  If they are a "hit" then they'll be there next year and hopefully so will the new and improved Road Glides.  Then you can have your choice.  JMHO.

Good luck with YOUR decision.

Do what you want it's your money but try to avoid an impulse buy. Sleep on it for a week and if you still cant resist then maybe go for it. Me personally, I would feel better if they were both paid for then trade but that's just my .02.  You do what you gotta do. Good Luck.  Let us know what you decide  :nixweiss:

There is absolutely nothing "logical" or "financially responsible" about buying a $40,000 motorcycle which is why its so much da-- fun! These bikes are not basic transportation or necessities. You can only ride 1 at a time anyway so I say go for it now and have a ball. Soon all the new aftermarket "cool stuff" will start to hit the market and you can really start to be financially irresponsible like many of us here on this forum with a big smile on your face!
