Phase 7 on CUSE
« on: August 29, 2013, 02:25:35 PM »

Interested in putting one of the Phase 7 LED headlights on my ultra. As y'all know the headlight is really 2 separate bulbs. Ain't gonna cut my harness, does someone make a 2 male to one female 'Y' harness? Whats it called? Thanks

No need to cut anything......just remove the little harness that splits it into the two bulbs....and keep it with the two bulb set-up.

You shouldn't have to pull the fairing.  Take the existing trim ring off, remove the three screws holding the headlight in, pull the headlight out and unplug it.  You'll see the extra harness zip-tied to the main harness, cut the ties and remove it.  Plug the new headlight in, put the three screws back in, put the trim ring back on, and you're done.

Don't.  I think even the instructions say to pull the fairing.  FWIW, if you get the module to keep the passing lamps on with the hi beam, you can do that without pulling the fairing too.

Also, if you end up selling the CVO stock two-bulb unit to anyone who did not originally have one on their bike... It needs the "deep dish" headlight mounting bowl that comes only on the later CVOs that have the two-bulb headlight as original equipment.

The P7 does not need this deep bowl though... so if you ever sell your CVO unit to someone who does not have the deep bowl, you could swap the mounting bowls with them. That's what I'm doing with a friend to whom I am giving my old two-bulb unit.

Now that's interesting.  The Daymaker came with a new mounting bowl that looked identical to the one on the bike, so I didn't use it.

Did you have the two-bulb CVO light? Maybe they started putting that deep bowl in all of the bikes at some point. The older non-CVO bikes I've seen have a flatter bowl that does not have room for the big two-bulb CVO unit.

I had this discussion last year with another member who had the flatter bowl and couldn't use the CVO two-bulb unit... But I don't remember who!

Perhaps it's no longer an issue on the newer bikes. I really don't know...

Here's a pic of a '12 Tri Glide. The headlight mounting bowl is the small one that will not accommodate the CVO two-bulb.

We are swapping this one out with my deep one, so we can mount my old CVO two-bulb unit to this trike.

Small little touches like that make it stand out as far as I concerned. Just a small, but very noticeable. I love it   :-* :-*

We did the swap and the trike looks great with the CVO two-bulb headlight.

What I was calling the "deep dish" CVO bowl is actually a mounting RING with no bowl nor back at all. I didn't think to snap a pic of it before we buttoned everything up!

Yup, sure did (do).  The Daymaker went intomthenstock mount without hassle.  I only had to move the hidden antenna.

What I was saying is that you can't put the larger CVO two-bulb unit into a bike that didn't have it originally, unless you replace the shallow stock mounting bowl with the backless CVO mounting ring.

The Daymaker and T-L P7 headlights both fit fine into the non-CVO mounting bowl. It's only the deeper CVO two-bulb unit that needs the backless CVO mounting ring.

I've heard a Dremel will fix it as well.
