2014 or Late Model CVO?
« on: August 30, 2013, 09:19:42 AM »

So a buddy of ours is getting rid of his older model Ultra for a sportier bagger.  He is trying to decide whether to get a 2014 Street Glide Special, or for about the same price, go with say a 2009-2011 CVO, either SG or RG.  He is in a position to pay cash.

I think if it were me, I would go find a CVO.  And for me personally, a Road Glide .

Here's my thinking. Not taking into account any MODS, in a few years the 2014 SG will be just another old street glide, nothing special.  BUT, a CVO....even stock will always be a CVO and hold more value.  Not to mention, chances are if he does his homework he can find an older CVO that the previous owner has already modded to his liking.

Curious what you guys would do?

I would go find an '09 black/orange SERGC and ride the HELL out of it. Still my favorite CVO ever!

Next to the Honey Badger, of course...

How's the Maple running, Phil? Blown a head gasket yet?   :D

Good Choice Ken, LOVE that color scheme.  Maple is GREAT  :2vrolijk_21:  No blown anything, which is surprising the way I ride.  Waiting on a few body pieces to get back from paint.  Then I'll be done.  Uh right  :zroflmao:

Renegade Lincoln Phantom Cut.  21" & 17"  Got from Tim over at Eastern Performance where I got my TTS.  They have a shop so wheels/tires come mounted, internal balanced, and ready to go.  Price?  You'll shake your head and roll your eyes if I told you. :rolleyes2:

You know you are on the CVO Forum.......right? I say go with the CVO The 11 Black and Orange SG was one of the best looking bikes to roll out of HD. Just my opinion of course. But a CVO will always be a CVO, resale value will be good, and you don't have to change a lot on them. Especially if the previous owner has done most of it before you.
I am not much on buying stuff on the first year they come out. A lot of changes in 2014, time will tell if Harley did a good job with the stuff they changed.

Oh, as an fyi, if you ever get the itch, a forum member over on another forum bought my agitators which I shipped to Chicago for $1600.  That offset my new wheels a lot.

I think the person should buy the bike they like not focus on "the investment" aspects since the recent economy shows that even a CVO can depreciate. The idea is many CVO owners mod their bikes and it the accessories or mods that get almost no value at trade or resale. If you buy a "standard" Harley and mod it to a CVO level you loose large money on all the mods. If you buy a used CVO then the first owner takes the depreciation if you can get it at a good price.
