Garmin 665 install with xm
« on: August 30, 2013, 11:45:46 PM »

Just wondering if anyone has installed a Garmin 665 with XM on a bike without a fairing. Where did you put the XM antenna? Installing on my 2013 SERK in the morning with the Harley handlebar mount. Hoping to wire the sound into the saddlebag aux connection so I can get everything working through the speakers. Purchased from Tri-County, Rebecca was awesome. Shipped it same day. 20% off+ $10 shipping.....thanks for the tip!

I had it installed before delivery and they put the xm40 puck in the nacelle that sure did not work for signal.

Cut it loose and placed it along the neck on rt side that did not work.

Mind you I do not have a subscription with xm yet.  Yesterday I noticed a thunder cloud on the screen and said what is that.  So I
checked the xm and they must be putting a trial week on her.  So I pulled on over to a safe location off the road and removed
the puck from the neck and strung it back around and lo and behold I have strong signal.

So I called garmin....45min wait and the guy sends me to oem side of road tech hd zummos and we mull over the lack of ability to place
antenna on non fairing bike.  So he is sending me a magnet part #010-11144-00 and I'm going to stick it to windshield bracket on back
side of windshield.  It wont be to noticeable and you can remove it when cleaning.

Also so you dont have to wait for 100 yrs he gave me a number for zummo side of tech service it is 800-408-7149.

Now I might just run the trial for 90 days next spring.  Since it is so close to well you know.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

Thanks for the heads up. Looks like its gonna be wired into the nacelle. The XM puck is going in the left side lower for now. Gotta see what kind of signal I get. Just have to route a cord from the aux input in the saddle bag up to the front under the tank to get the sound wired in. Trial and error. I'll post an update later.
