Need your prayers for a brother..
« on: October 26, 2006, 11:31:19 AM »

Last night one of my best friends (also a cop) was working his part time job as a EMT and while driving through our small town, hit and killed a 16 year old boy that was crossing the street. I don't have all of the details yet, but it was dark and snowing and not at an intersection...having said that, I am asking for your prayers for my friend and the family of the young man that was killed.
Thanks in advance to you all,

Rick

Rick,
I posted on the Rider Down thread yesterday about the loss of an old club bro. Many of the folks on the site have offered kind words and I am feeling better knowing that these folks are here for me. One of the very best things about this site is that whether we agree in some things and not in others, we stand together in our times of need. I stand with you now and your friend and partner as well. I know the family of the young man killed will go through the entire range of emotion from sorrow to hatred of your partner. He will need you beside him steady as a rock to get through this. My most sincere condolences to the young man's family. JR has emerged as the spiritual leader of our site and he had some very helpful and profound words for me regarding the loss of my bro. I am sure as he reads your post, he will find the right words for you as well.

First, let me express my sorrow for your loss and thank you for your kind words. I didn't sleep last night...my imagination took me places I didn't need to go. I know it could have been any one of us or our children...it breaks my heart to know that a man that I admire for his dedication and caring attitude will be forever scarred by this....and I have to remind myself that another family is dealing with the other side of this tragedy.

How very sad... there will be plenty of pain all the way around for all involved. Stay close to your friend... he will desperately need your counsel. :-[

Our love and support will always be here for you and prayers are being said for your friend. He is going to need you to be strong so he can have someone to lean on.   There are no words any of us can give you to ease your pain or your friends. But I know that many of your friends here feel for you in this time of pain and grieving.  I stand with you too, my friend.   :'(

As the father of a teenager, myself, my prayers go out to all involved.  Every time I hear a story like this, and I hear them far too often, I wonder how I would handle the grief.  Truly a tragic incident.

So tragic...you and your friend are in my thoughts.  Be there for your friend, and rest assured that the kind members (brothers and sisters) of this site will be there for you.

One of those "no words" things Rick.  It's a small town so everyone will know or at least know of everyone; and if they didn't before they will now.  So be there for you buddy.  Keep an eye out to make sure the kid's family isn't standing alone.  And get through it.  Not a lot else to do.
