Undecided!
« on: October 27, 2006, 05:48:08 PM »

I'm wanting to order an 07 SEUC but reading all of the issues folks are having i.e. running hot, leather tour pack wearing holes, now I'm thinking is it worth the $34,000 or do I just go with an 07 Ultra Classic.

First of all welcome to the Internets best CVO/Harley website, we're glad you found us. In regards to your question I guess it can only be answered by first asking you some questions....

1. Once you get your scooter will you be doing any of the mods that come standard on the CVO's? Examples chrome, motor upgrades, etc.?

2. Other then the bad things you've heard do you really have your heart set on a FLHTCUSE2 or will you be satisfied later down the road with a "Ultra" that you have modified?

Some food for thought.... Yes the CVO's are more expensive, but they will bring you more return when you go to sell your scooter. You are starting off w/a motorcycle that comes from the factory at $34K versus a motorcycle that comes from the factory at $21,195.00 - $21,335.00 and you added $5k - 10K of accessories that you may only get $0.20 - $0.50 back on every dollar you put into it?

Life is about gambles and choices. How much do you want something determines how much of a gamble you want to take.

Well, only you can make that decision, but don't let a few problems on the internet change your mind. For every problem you hear about, there are many other bikes out there with no problems at all. I had some of the same reservations about my 06, but it has over 12K trouble free miles. Order it, enjoy it, and let us help you spend more money on chrome. Welcome to the site.

I think what you have to consider is the desire for the bike. Most of the members here discuss the problems with the bikes as a point of reference. (Is it just me or is everyone having the same issue?) It is also helpful to remember that all mechanical devices will develop problems. You have a large group of people here that own a small number of vehicles (As produced by HD). The issues spoken of here may seem magnified.

I love my bike and don't regret for a second the purchase of it. I have had a few bumps in the road, but they have been dealt with by the dealer and are no longer an issue. When I bought my Ford 500, I had a few issues and recalls. It seems to be the way it is.

Good luck no matter what choice you make and continue to participate here...all are welcome!

WOW!!!!! Thanks for the quick input, I feel part of the family already. Well you are all right, if I purchase an Ultra Classic I would probably spend more on it than what I can get the SEUC for and would probably be of less value. Also after a friend purchased an 06 SEUC this year I wanted one bad but have only wanted one, but now that the 07's are out with 110's and 6 speed trans. I have really been wanting one.

The decision is made. Now let me see if I can sell my 2000 FLSTC, decide on color and place an order or locate.

Good luck on your decision and purchase, but be aware that a bike that has everything on it will keep you adding more to it!

I just sold my 2007 S\E Ultra and lost 2500.00 because I could not longer ride it after only 500 miles.  It had such a severe vibration at 2600 - 2800 rpms it would impair your vision.  I filed with HD, ref 451674, and with the NHTSA for safety reasons.  It ran hot, burned the bottom of my thighs, and would not go into 2nd gear.  Of course, the HD rep said "No problem can be duplicated".  There are other such owners with the same issue.  I will file for the lost depreciation and for deceptive trade practices.  For the record, this was my 14th HD sonce 1993 and after spending in excess of $400,000.00 HD would not even allow me $2000.00 trade assistance.

Too many problems for $35,000.00+.

th

The only issue I have with my 2007 Road Glide is the heat and it has lessened as the bike has piled up the miles. It was in the high 80's low 90's the last leg of my trip across the Imperial Dunes on Monday and I couldn't help but notice that the heat issue was not what I had experience in Daytona the previous Wednesday and about 2,000 miles before. I have been speaking to the Service Dept. at San Diego H-D and this is the one common complaint they have been getting on all 07 models. Some of the techs have 07's and are complaining as well. I love my new RG and am going to work through this in any way I can. I have already installed an oil cooler and the new temp/level dipstick recorded 217 -242 during my 6k adventure with the 242 coming stuck in traffic in Biloxi MS. Most of the time I'd push the button as soon as I got off when stopping for gas and I was reading right around 220. Sooooo I'm thinking the problem is not so much the motor running hot as heat from the rear pipe not being carried away. I know I am a fool to think the MoCo will address this issue, let alone acknowledge it, but with their own techs screaming maybe they will . Chit I was a Red Sox fan till Buckner booted an easy out in 86. Hope springs eternal. In any event, I would not discourage someone from buying an 07.

Brian,

I thought about it, but on the off chance that the folks at H-D actually read any of my stuff I thought it best to leave it alone. I don't want them to get the impression that I've forgiven them for what they put me through, and definitely don't want them to get any more complacent than they already are.
