There is a black, blue and purple, I need to know which one is running light and which one is brake. I just installed a fender edge light. I would have thought that there would be 4 wires going to each turn signal, ground, running, brake and turn signal but there are only 3 going to each. Anybody have any idea which color wire runs what??

Blue is running light, Violet is signal and brake, Black is ground.

OK THANKS, for hooking up this under fender running/stop light would you hook up the Violet or just the Blue?? If I hook up the violet it sounds like it would flash with the turn left signal (as that is the side I am using to wire this in) and not just the brake. Is that correct? If so I guess I can just use it as a running light. Thanks again for your help.

You need to hook it up to the middle pin on the license plate light plug like the guy was telling you in the other thread.  There will be no wire in the connector on one side, and a blue w/ red stripe wire on the other.  Either get a pin and put it in the vacant slot with a wire, or tap the wire on the other side of the connector.  That will give you a brake light signal.

OK, will try that now. I am guessing the red center will just pull out and allow be to put a pin in it. Thank you.

Yup, you should be able to get the right pin from the harley dealer.  Pay close attention to wether it is a male or female pin.

I went ahead and just wired it in, the new light does not light up at all for some reason.

Ground wasn't good, getting there however, now have a taillight but still no brake light

It has to be a problem with the wiring running to the light. When I put a test light on the brake light wire past where I made the connection, the test light lights up when I apply the brake.

Check that same wire on the other side of the plug.  On the wire you installed.  If I am viewing that right, you are testing the wiring before the plug.  You need to test after the plug, and then on the connection after the t taps.  Those connectors are a terrible idea btw.  Use them for testing if you must, but solder them wires when you are done.

OK GOT IT!!! What the problem was is I needed to switch the running and stop lights out. The orange wire (coming from the light) is the brake light not the blue one. So when I had a light with no stop light what I had was the stop light burning as the running light. Going to get it all soldered up now!!  Man I really appreciate you guys help with this. I am a pilot not a mechanic as I am sure you can tell!
