Just curious...

What is the process ?  If your chrome peels at a couple of places on a wheel, do they have to 'unchrome' the wheel before rechroming it ?  Is it an electrical or mechanical process ?

I guess they don't just chrome over the defect...   ???

They would have to remove it and repair any damage.  I found this answer about removing chrome plating:

"There are several methods to remove chrome plating and the right method to use will depend on the thickness of the plating and the material that was plated. Sand or shot blasting can strip the plating but might damage the underlying material. Other options include certain acid baths, reverse electroplating, or ultrasonic cleaning."

The old chrome is removed, but unsure how possibally sandblasting. I was told by Impress pre-chrome prep. the  wheel was polished, then apply two layers of copper that fills imperfections, a nickel layer next and lastly the chrome plating.
