what would you do?
« on: October 18, 2013, 02:06:58 PM »

I have a question for the group.  Was going to buy 2014 CVO street glide but that didn't happen so wondering if I should spend 30k for a 2012 or just wait for whenever HD decides to produce the CVO SG again. Have couple of other bikes to ride in the interim. What say you?

Screw spending money with the MoCo on a new bike.  I vote for strippers and Macallan.

Simple answer.  Life is short.  Do what makes you happy.    ;D

To be honest it is not the money but seriously wonder about paying close to msrp for a two year old bike with 4 - 8 thousand on the clocks.  Guess it is a matter of supply and demand! Thanks for the replies. Spook

That's a no-no for me...

The other thing that kind of amazes me is that the majority of the bikes I have found are not stock with the original parts sold.  Kind of like selling the fuel injection system from a 63 split window corvette....what are you thinking!!? I understand making a bike your own, but for God sake keep the original parts!  Just my .02.  Unless I find a low mileage CVO that reflects the year and mileage in the selling price,  I think I will just wait for the next CVO SG and continue to play with my 06 and the 13 GSA BMW. Thanks for the replies.  Spook

I bought a 2012 new and did some things to make for me, first angled the floor boards then cams, pipes ac and a very good tuner. Lowered the front with progressive mono tubes, 575 wild one's bars and a few other items. Girl friends 06 SG was hitting 50,000 miles was going to build another but found a 2010 CVO street glide 4500 miles with some changes $28,500. Did some changes to make it fit her cams and tune, bars C&C seat lower the front and other things. Looking at the new 14's WE ARE GLAD we did just my 02 cents.

As much as we would like to think otherwise, CVO's ARE NOT '63 split window Corvettes. To my knowledge, there isn't one single CVO of any model or year that currently sells for more than it retailed for new - original parts or not.

I agree with you that it isn't smart for someone not to keep the parts they took off of their bike but it would only make a difference in resale value if you stumble upon the buyer that knows what the original parts were and is anal about getting them. That might not be rare for folks on this site but we are zealots and not the average second owner of a CVO.

If you shop well, you can get a SESG for that money.

You are thinking smart, Spook. Look hard, get a deal, and ride what you got until then. They are out there, just not common. If you are willing to travel your odds increase greatly. My last 4 buys.....NJ, TX & 2 in MI. Saved at least 4k on each, hell road trips are fun!!! Good luck and don't settle, it WILL happen.
