Oil change
« on: October 21, 2013, 07:07:15 AM »

I was wondering would 20-50W Mobile One work in all three holes?  Other than HD Synth 3 I am really limited on affordable choices over here in Germany.  I can get the Mobile One for less than 1/2 the cost of the HD brand.

I just did my 1000 mile service at the dealership in Stuttgart and the price was not that far off from the states.  Of course you will have to use a VAT form.  Only issue I had was you have to PLAN for it before you hit the mile marker unlike in the states.

I do all the service on my older bike.  But the new one still has a warrenty on it so.

I used Mobil 1 in all three holes for 1st 13k and saw no problems. Only changed primary & tranny after reading a report on Lucas. Now and forever Mobil 1 in engine.

If you are currently using Harley's SYN3 in all three holes, you can indeed use Mobil 1 V-Twin 20w50 in all three holes.  Mobil certifies it for such use and indicates that on the bottle.  I personally believe it's better to use lubricants specifically designed for each application, such as a real gear lube for the trans, but if you want to stick with just one fluid then the Mobil 1 V-Twin is a good choice.

Great - Amazon has it on sale for $10 a quart right now through the end of the month.

I just ordered some and the filter.  I thought it would get rejected for shipping but it took.

Hey Jerry,

We've not Mobil 1 V Twin in Europe !  :-[
We've only Mobil 1 for cars. Not sure it's also specific than the V Twin for our bikes.

You can order from the Mainz Kastel Car Center for $14.87 a quart, I just checked and it takes 7-10 days to come in.

I have seen it there before, but that was over a year ago.  I was just there this past weekend and asked if they had oil or a filter, they had neither.  The parts guy in the PX said they could not even get the Mobile One V-Twin oil, he was the one that steered me to Mainz Kastel.

As My next oil change is coming up, I start checking my area auto parts store prices online and can usually find Mobil 1 V Twin for $9 to $10 a quart.

I'm not sure I would use Mobile 1 in the primary,  I had a Mobile1 rep tell me the V twin oil has additives for the clutch. Just passing on what someone that should know tell me.

I'd stick with F+ in the primary.

Sent from my iPad, probably while I'm pooping.

Mobil 1 V-Twin is fully compatible with a wet clutch, and Mobil certifies it's OK in the primary.  If you are talking about the automotive version, which is 15w50 not 20w50 btw, that one I wouldn't use for anything but the engine.  In fact I used to use it many years ago in my Dyna, back before they came out with the V-Twin oil.  But just in the engine.
