Monotubes issue?
« on: October 22, 2013, 06:23:36 AM »

I've had my Monotubes on my 2011 RGU for about a year I would guess. For about a month or more now I have noticed the front end seems to bounce instead of absorb the little bumps or ripples in the asphalt.

In Daytona riding the scenic loop several times it was almost nonstop. Not a hard bounce, just an easy up and down soft like bouncy motion.

Anyone else experience similar? Anyone know what the warranty terms are?

lifetime warranty. get an RMA and send them in. affordable enough to have a good pair sitting on the shelf. I probably got five yrs and 80k on a set in my drunk-bike. of course I just ride it to church on Sundays and hardly get it up to speed.  :orange:

good luck

I had a similar problem. My right side was dead right out of the box. Need to get off my dead butt and send them in. Thanks for reminding me.

What's an RMA?

When you call Progressive for a warranty problem they'll issue you a Return Merchandise Authorization or some chit like that. Then when you package it up and send it out you write the RMA number on the box so they can look it up and know what the deal is and how to handle it on their end.

I don't know if you do your own labor or not, but you know that it is a timely process to change out the front suspension on your RGU.

You might want to contact Progressive first and talk with them about down time, turn around time etc... you might get them to send replacements before you send yours in, just sayin'...

I had the same issue on my Ultra, went to the Progressive tent at the Sturgis rally and they checked the bike and gave me a new set on the spot.

Thanks guys. Spoke with the dealer that I purchased them from and did the install. They are going to contact Progressive on my behalf to minimize downtime. I'm pretty sure they will cover the labor as well since they installed them (I hope)... :P

Yes I have, it was a defective new Michelin Commander II front tire.
Replaced it with a Dunlop American Elite, it cured it.

Dealer is sending it back for Warrantee refund.

If they do, it would be a gesture of good will because it's not a HD part.  I wouldn't hold my breath, but will keep my fingers crossed for you.

With a gas charged cartridge...when the gas leaks out, all you have is the spring keeping the fork from collapsing.  So you basically have pogo stick.  One of the downsides of gas charged as opposed to oil damped cartidges.  But the failure rate seems to be low on the Progressive product.  But, that labor to replace them can start to add up...

I had a set replaced but they made me send them back and tested before they would replace. I had a spare set.

Well, I guess this isn't the case anymore TN. My bike has been at the dealer in Tampa since March 31st. They have ridden it, verified that not only is the bike doing what I said, but also that there is a "chatter" in the front end. Progressive keeps beating around the bush about it.

This morning my contact sends me a message that he is reaching out to progressive personally and that he also has the dealers Drag Specialties Rep involved. I told em to tell them to go f$%* themselves. I'll take the bike to Traxxion Dynamics and pay twice the money for a real suspension and real warranty...

Terry,

The dealer in Tampa has always been great to deal with (which is why I take my bike to them even though they are 100+ miles from me)! Sometimes, they even come and get my bike (as they did this time). I surely have no beef with them. My contact there knows this has been a concern (issue) for quite sometime, even well before my first post about it here, and are standing by to do the labor for free.

I just don't understand why Progressive didn't just go the RMA route with the dealer and have them remove and send in the parts for verification.Coulda had them back by now. Rib Fest is coming up fast and I need my bike back. Last thing I want to do is get it back a day or two before we head out to Kenny Lee's house which is 1000 miles away.

As it stands now, I may trailer again and swing by Woodstock Ga on the way a day earlier and get the Traxxion installed if they can fit me in.

just wondering if they were improved to justify the $60 price increase. I should have done it last year.

I have installed the montubes on 3 bikes.  Never had a problem.  I am very disappointed in there handling of this problem.  Won't be doing business with them again.
