Refreshing my 110
« on: October 25, 2013, 07:25:23 PM »

The bike runs well and has 80,000 Kim's on it, so my thought was to go in a change cam chain tensioners.
So here are a couple pictures ( woods 7h cam)
I have changed direction, installing a Thayer pump, cam bearing were changed at 18km, but replacing anyhow.

Please check your crank run out, mine was way out at 20,000km.  I would also use S&S lifers.  Hope your refresh goes with out hitch. Which shop are dealing with?

We'd suggest S&S Premium lifters.

Hard to tell in the picture, but is the first lobe on that camshaft pitted/scored?

My 110" is approaching 31k miles, and I think I'll be doing S&S premium lifters, new inner camshaft bearings, and possibly a new oil pump from Feuling this winter.

So far, it runs like a top, but I don't want to lose my engine from a bad lifter or inner camshaft bearing.

I would also highly suggest S&S lifters.
Have you thought about headwork (porting, decking to increase compression)?  JPrecision in Montreal is well known and used my many Canadian builders.  Hillside is also not that far of a drive over the border if you're heading towards Kingston.

Crank run out - first thing to check.  The HD spec is ridiculous.  I think 0.005" or more should have the crank redone.

JPrecision  ported my heads, bored out my cylinders, rebuilt and welded my crank. Now my run out is 1/2 thou. It's the only real way to make the HD engine right.

Sounds like a good build,I think you will be much happier with the cam you chose instead of the woods

Kirby the PMs fly on these sites, lots of activity there that never reaches the threads, but I am sure you know that.

The lifters have 80K km (~50K miles) on them, they are due for a change. Saw a set of new 2013 HD lifters with 250 miles on them already frosted on the rollers. I am convinced this is caused by a surface finish issue likely the cam lobe being the culprit. This is not so brand specific, other lifters have failed showing similar symptoms. Seems to be more prevalent with OEM HD and SE cams (CompCams) being used. Have not seen this when Andrews (Macky & Wood cams source BTW) or S&S based cams are deployed. The OEM car manufacturers have had this same issue many years ago.

I suggest Gaterman lifters rather than the HD part.
