Alpine traffic officer Matthew Kent picked up a AAA of North Jersey merit safety award on behalf of the department at the Brownstone just before he crashed into a motorcyclist at the intersection of Union and Marion streets Wednesday afternoon, the paper reported.
A witness told The Record that Kent's cruiser blew through a stop sign and struck the motorcyclist. The 39-year-old motorcyclist reportedly suffered a broken collarbone, and Kent was escorted by other officers to Hackensack University Medical Center for observation, the report said.
Paterson police thus far made few details of the incident available.
