Springfield XD-S recall XDS 9mm .45 ACP
« on: November 01, 2013, 12:21:32 PM »

Starting a new thread because of an issue I had.

Springfield's website requires flash. No good to iPad users  >:(
The Springfield phone lines have been off the hook for quite awhile now.

I actually got through to a live person at 309-944-5631

When you send in for the recall, SA will email you a link to download a FEDEX shipping label.
The package need to be dropped off at a staffed FEDex center, no drop boxes allowed.

I had printed a second copy of the label and placed it in the box. I did not think to print a 3rd label. I just "assumed" I could go back later and download another copy.
The box was not scanned in at the store right away, and I didn't think about that until I got home and couldn't download another copy of the label.

Finally speaking to a rep at SA today at the above number (had to await approximately 20 minutes),  using my serial # I was able to verify that my XD-S was received and is in the Que for repair.

As of today, 11/01 pistols are being shipped that were received as of 09/03

So - if you have one to send back, make sure you have a copy of your fedex tracking number and I would suggest tracking it until it is received.
Currently there is no website available to track the progress of the repairs. Once a week on Friday afternoon, SA sends out an email to all those who requested notification.

Springfield has determined that under exceptionally rare circumstances, some 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm and .45ACP caliber pistols could experience an unintended discharge during the loading process when the slide is released, or could experience a double-fire when the trigger is pulled once. The chance of these conditions existing is exceptionally rare, but if they happen, serious injury or death could occur.

I sent mine in about 2 days after I heard about the recall on one of my local gun shop FB pages. Still been a pain waiting. I didn't realize that had not determined the fix until about a month after I had sent my in for repair.

The delay was mostly making sure the fix worked, testing etc. You should be one of the lucky ones, getting the extra 7 round mag.

Thanks Duane!  Your post is the first that I have heard of this. I carry this gun A LOT, especially when on long rides or trips. Sounds like a long time without it. Not happy about that and thinking about waiting to send it in. Maybe things will go quicker when the backlog gets less.
Please keep us advised on your impression of the upgrade.

Going to get mine back tomorrow, as well.  I did print an extra copy of the label, and recorded SA's so-called RMA number.

All that was in the "invoice" email.  They called Thursday to let me know it was shipping.  Happy with their "recovery".

Delivered mine to SA on 9/23.

When did they decide to send out 7 round mags with the returns? Got a link?

Here's the link to their FAQ page.

http://springfieldrecall.com/Recall%20FAQ.asp

I had an email from them saying the extra mag was included. Here is a link where others have received their XDS back with the longer mag.

http://www.springfieldrecall.com/RecallReact.asp

Hopefully mine will get here in a few weeks. Sent it in 09-30 and have the extra FedX tag and tracking to prove they received it.
