Not sure when you planned your trip but for all you Mid West, and East Coast members the best time to visit the Calif coast line is Mid Oct, Nov, and Dec. it's cooler inland and allows the fog to move out, making to coast line clear and beautiful.

We were young and stupid back then. Always took our two week vacation starting on labor day weekend so we could get an extra day. By the time we got to our destination, most had gone back to work or school. Now that I'm older and somewhat smarter, we would look closer to the weather patterns for the time of year we wanted to go.

Looks like they've made good progress since I was there last July...   

We were there in July '12 too. Really did not know what they were doing with the new construction. They (slowly) routed us between the new construction and the rock face. Gee, we were right in the line of fire and slow moving targets at that!!
