AMMO
« on: November 12, 2013, 06:35:16 AM »

The EPA has finally shut down the last lead smelting plant in the USA*, as a result ammunition will become even more expensive and scarce.  I will leave the political ramifications alone.  I have found a good spot to locate and purchase ammunition, if you are looking give it a try.

Regarding Doe Run please refer to the following dated 11/6/13, this is hardly "Urban Legend".

http://www.thenewamerican.com/usnews/constitution/item/16881-epa-closure-of-last-lead-smelting-plant-to-impact-ammunition-production

If you regularly purchase ammunition (like I do) then you know that prices have been constantly increasing and availability is decreasing. I purposely placed no blame for this in my original post.

Regarding gunbot, I have used it and have found good pricing and availability. I provided it ONLY so others that practice quite a bit (as I do) might find it useful.

what i was getting at is our ammo is from recycled lead and not as directly impacted by the closure of the primary smelter as some sources have suggested.

like any commodity price increases based on speculation.

from what i have read that is more mis-information.

I don't see it as that. When the last producer of  "from ore to product"  in this country closes, that will mean recycled lead will be the source.

Not all lead is recycled and some is lost.
And because recycling demand will go u,p so will the cost.

Sierra's supply is not unlimited.

not in the article posted by owl, but others that i had read were giving the impression that no ammo would be manufactured in the US because of this.

Gotcha  :2vrolijk_21:

Ammo will always be manufactured here in the US.
We may not be able to buy, but it will be manufactured.

Several large smelters just across the border in Mexico with considerably lower costs.

I don't think China is going to be effected by the shutdown of US smelters.

Thank the EPA once again for more BS regulations.  That's why Harley's need radiators and my electric bill runs several hundred $ a month.
Maybe guns can be invented that use wind power for bullets?
Why, I bet I could get a $500,000,000 grant from our communist run government for that! :orange:

Lead sinkers have been gone here in NYS for some time.
They do allow lead downrigger weights though, for controlled-depth fishing.
