Just for documentation for riders with simular mileage. I have a 2008 FLHTCUSE3 with 38,000 miles on it. Lifters started chattering more and more and so my friend went into the cam chest. Findings were that both cam chain tensioners were badly worn, cams were pitted with scoring on both but more on the rear cam. Lifters were shot. I am a one owner very consertive rider and have always changed the oil every 3500 to 5000 miles. Always used Mobile 1 20W50.
Replaced all parts including new SE cam bearings. Also had TTS tune. Engine has never run this quiet since I brought it home from dealer new.
You must have been reading my mail!, 110 , started a weird squeaking in the valve train while i was in the Hill country, Haven't physically looked yet, but the service writer said the coating came ofF of the roller or rollers on the lifters, took out cams, oil pump etc: Man those Harley Rev C lifters are great...bike only has 42,000 on it. Oh well,, bought extended warranty..! having to put Harley cams back in because they are paying the bill...and it's zero out of pocket...Woods lifters, 254-E cams SE Oil Pump, Edd 5 returning, should be good for another 25 K or so...now if the crank doesn't get any worse.. it was at 0.65 at 5k miles,,we'll see.
News Flash..18538-C HD lifter a whopping $30.40 retail, let's see costs HD about $5.00, that's comforting to know that I have $5.00 lifters in a $5k bike..lol
