Adding second Garage door Opener Receiver
« on: November 15, 2013, 04:49:21 PM »

Hi Everyone, I have a question. I presently have one remote control Garage door opener, the one that came with my 09 SEUC. It works fine. I have added another garage door opener in the back of my garage and want to add a second HD receiver. Has anyone done this and if so have you had any issues. I am thinking both doors would have to be closed or open so they would be coordinated. If I was gone I would have both doors down so that when I toggled my High Low Beam switch they would both open at the same time then I could ride thru make a u turn and be set up for the next ride. Thanks in advance. CAHDBIKER

A guy I used to ride with had that setup. It worked well, I'm not sure if did anything special but I don't think he did(moved to FL a year ago). Being out of sequence would only matter if the back door was open.

The two openers are in the same building? Within some decent range of each other? If so don't worry about the second receiver just string a wire pair from the opener points of the existing motor to the new one.  Let the one receiver trigger both.  Then the doors can never get out of sync.

2K..............As I'm an old (headlight/grapefruit/Melon) lover,  your avatar is more than distracting.  In fact,  as I have coped some prior avatars from here,  I'm thinking you have been the one with some similar melons on display before this one.

Hats off..............We are of the same mind regarding such things that resemble the bumper guards on a '55 Buick. :cherry:

Keep it up.....................

Yep, Moscotter, one of my main weakness/sickness. I'll get to Little River and you can buy us a cold one at POO's this spring!

Twolanerider, that was my first thought and it is is a good one. However if I link the two openers together and decide I want to open one door just by pressing the control on the wall they will both open or close.( there are a lot of times when I don't want them both open)  I am going to try to get the second one to "learn the signal from my bike" ( I have been reading the garage door manual). If that doesn't work then I will go buy an additional HD receiver. CAHDBIKER

as long as both of your openers are of the same technology than you should have no issue training the rear opener to understand the signal from the HD remote.  Somewhere around 7-8 years ago a lot of the openers changed technology.  My house openers that were installed in '04 use one type while the opener for the warehouse at my office which was installed just 3 years later uses a newer technology.  I was able to get a receiver for the warehouse opener that understands the older styler codes relatively inexpensively so that I could use 1 opener for all 3 doors (2 at the house, 1 at the office).  If the rear opener is a different model from the front then just take the model numbers to your local garage door installer and they will tell you exactly what you need to make them both work off the same remote.

BMQ both operators are exactly the same.  One is 3 months old, the other was just installed a few days ago. I have one HD receiver since it came with my bike, but I will try to see if I can get the second door to "learn" the signal from my bike to avoid buying a second receiver. Thanks for the info.CAHDBIKER

I thought the tramsmitter on your bike would only comunicate with the HD receiver, if true your only option is to buy another receiver.

Don't remember the brands I experimented with but three or four years ago got curious one weekend and tried to program the HD transmitter to three different common brands of openers.  None worked.  Could only make the HD xmitter work with the HD receiver.

Twolanerider, I believe you are correct because yesterday I pressed the learn button on my second opener and it would not pick up the signal from my bike. The other opener has the HD receiver that was included with  my bike. However, sometimes I have to toggle the high/low headlight switch a couple of times to get it to work.  I think I am going to buy a windshield bag and just put my actual garage remote inside and avoid buying another HD receiver.( a little extra convenient storage would be a benefit ) I have looked in the HD catalogue and they don't seem to have any windshield bags for bikes with the padded dash. Any suggestions for a good windshield bag that will work on my 09. Thanks CAHDBIKER
